Given time to reflect on the other night i'd like to know why we bothered with the stewarding on Thursday night? An offence to run on the pitch will result in you taking souvenirs off the players while stewards and police watch and to go home without even a word said to you. Wouldnt it have been easy to arrest these dozen or so crims or at the very least have their pictures taken and published in the papers for decent supporters to inform the club who they were so they could be banned? Surely they were all on camera? This goes for the various morons around the ground that have also been mentioned in other posts. I hate to say it but the club deserves a fine for not controlling the crowd and most of all for not sorting the problem out when it occurred. Which is a shame because 99.9% of the crowd behaved themselves. Why do we all have to suffer for such a small minority and tell me why should i renew my Season Ticket at a club which lacks the intelligence to sort out a few mindless idiots? rant over.
How do you know something isn't being done. I've said it before on here, it's far safer and less provocative to sort non-violent situations out afterwards. In practice it takes at least two stewards to safely catch and restrain one person. If this had been done the three stands would have been without stewards in seconds. You can't stop people running on the pitch, it can't be done.
course you bloody can otherwise there is no point in them being there. </p> Lets face facts.</p> The stewards LOWERED their cordon to allow the people to step over it and onto the pitch. Thats right, they LOWERED it to ALLOW access to the pitch.</p> Stewards ALLOWED fans to walk past them onto the pitch. That is walk not run.</p> Stewards ALLOWED fans to walk back past them into the crowd without saying boo to them.</p> A club official in full BFC suit and tie had to walk from the west stand to remove a fan from the pitch in front of the east stand because he was stood in front of our players on sky TV's close up camera. That is a club official that had to do this after the people in charge of crowd control erm failed to control the crowd and allowed this ****** on to the pitch.</p> The stewards had every opportunity to try to find out the identity of the sweetcorn missile thrower at the game by asking people in the surrounding area if they saw anything. What did the stewards do? all four of them that were within 10 yards? They turned and walked away without saying a word to the people in the area.</p> I'm sorry Windy but if you are saying that the crowd control are unable to control the crowd then you are proving my point that they are inept and need replacing by a more competent company immediatly for the security and safety of everybody inside oakwell stadium.</p>
You're wrong, you can't stop people going onto the pitch. Full stop. There's a lot more to it than you think including legislation and FA rules. You can have a word with the man in charge if you like. He actualy does know what he's talking about.
I could have sworn there was an iron curtain of riot police in front of the away end Maybe they would have been better suited in front of the ponty end?</p> They stop people from going onto the pitch at all other grounds. Maybe the operate under different FA rules?</p> Perhaps it is time that some of the space in front of the ponty end was taken up with a barrier the same as what the FA used at wembley?</p>
The police were there to stop the Barnsley fans approaching the away end. It's not always how it seems. .
which is exactly my point i'd have thought it best to stop the barnsley fans at the barnsley stand rather than letting them get within 10 metres of the away fans. Maybe thats just me being daft but i'd rather stop a man from buying a gun than letting him buy it, load it and point it at his victim then trying to stop him firing it.</p>
Do the maths. Put a line across one side of the pitch or the other three. Also like I said it's impossible to stop people going onto the pitch. If that line had been facing the other way it would have been useless. These people do know what they're doing and, contrary to popular belief, actually are trying to keep you safe.
if they are trying then like i say, they are inept because they fail to enforce the ground regulations week in week out.</p> And it wouldnt have required riot police all the way round the ground, just a police presence at the ponty end and east stand. one every 10 feet in riot gear would have done the trick. Deterrent is required and there was no deterrent to people going onto the pitch on thursday.</p> Like I said. It wasnt a case of people breaking through a barrier, it was a case of the stewards lowering their cordon to the floor to allow people to walk onto the pitch. Do you not think that that is incompetence at best and negligence at worst?</p>
It didnt need a full line though just about 3 officers spread out between each gangway would have been enough. There was already a line of polic horses to stand in front of the away end and ensure that the away fans were protected.</p> What i dont understand is why we don't do the simple things? A few police dogs with their handlers would have scared the little chavs shitless. And how hard is it to turn the sprinklers on on them to get them off the pitch?</p>
LOL. Maybe you should get in touch with the police and show them how to carry on. I'm sure they'd be grateful of your expertise. What are your consultancy fees like?
RE: It didnt need a full line though Quite right. Dogs are the answer to the mindless chavs. Windy's appeasement to these mindless youths is incredible to any mature civilised person. Punish to deter.
Appeasement? WTF? Happily the delicate task of crowd control and safety isn't in the hands of you amateur security experts but people who actually have a ******* clue about it.
one problem with that there is no crowd control</p> Crowd Control = Controlling the crowd</p> I have seen no evidence of the crowd being controlled at all. </p> "may we remind all fans that you will be arrested if you go onto the pitch"</p> yeah right</p>
"No crowd control"? Have you any idea of the enormity of the task a handful of people face in getting 1000's of pepole in an out of a highly charged football match safely? By the way, the FA were at the match and commended security on their handling of things afterwards. But what do they know eh? I reckon they need as few tips from the experts on here.
why were the FA at a Football League match? And why would they be commending a club that fails to deal with a supporter that refuses to give the ball back, fails to stop a supporter from taking cans (potential missiles) into a stadium, fails to stop said missile from being hurled at the players/referee, and fails to stop supporters from entering the playing area?</p> Do you honestly think that the company in charge of stewarding at oakwell is doing the job well enough?</p>
they obviously don't know that the majority of customers don't feel that they are up to the job They are in charge of the security at oakwell and the vast majority of people in the stadium do not think they are up to it. How the hell can they do their job while so many people have no respect for them?</p> The company needs changing</p>
"the vast majority of people in the stadium do not think they are up to it" heh heh Two pints of skimmed and a plain yoghurt please.
