Just to let you know that he's fine, but is hanging up his computer as he is struggling to see to read and type.
That's a shame... Aren't there any items of equipment that might help him out like giant keyboards for the partially sighted etc? Larger monitors or maybe linking the computer up to the telly to make the display bigger? Maybe some sort of speaking widget that reads what's on screen. Seems a shame that he has to give up something he enjoys. RNIB could offer advice. He might also be able to get assistance because he was in the forces. I seem to remember my auntie qualified for aid through some charity or trust. Not sure. Edited to qualify that I meant of course that it's a shame he's giving up the computer, not that he's fine! (doh)
Tell him (or his relatives) to contact their local PCT about a low vision assessement - the NHS lva's will be much cheaper than if he does it privately.
He ought to get someone to look at rnib website. He can get large letter keyboards http://onlineshop.rnib.org.uk/display_item.asp?n=11&c=80&sc=265&id=3455&it=1&l=3&d=0
please pass on my regards to him as well this place will be worse off without him, and I guess he will be lost without his computor, in Bobs words, Cum On Barnsleeeeee
Thanks All. Bob's due at the hospital today getting some results of his recent tests, so I'll try and ring him later or maybe tomorrow to pass on the comments.
