For once I have total sympathy with them.

How did a subsidiary of Balfour Beattie win the mail delivery contract (without a postman on their books) and then sub-contract it to the Royal Mail, who made a higher bid. If this wasn't intereference by the Government I don't know what is. Secondl, who is the CEO of Royal Mail, but that creepy Scot who 'ran' the FA, no other than Crozier, who earns a pittance of £3 million per year.

    Me too

But the problem stems from the mid-90's and allowing other companies to cream off the profitable parts and leave Royal MAil with the **** still having to deliver to outlying areas.
So not sure what the answer is, the Royal Mail has been systematically destroyed for at least 15 years.

The real reason behind the strike

Is the Government want to part/fully privatise the Postal Service to get sufficient funds to
avoid paying back the Billions of pounds they plundered from their pension funds.

    Privatisation strikes again....

They should just refuse to deliver any mail with a non Royal Mail stamp on it. Simples.

Union intransigence kills another state industry

About time they realised that unions kill jobs, not save them.

That is far too one sided.

Regardless of where you sit, teh fact is that the CWU have made a resonanle offer and sugegstions to move forward, but all have been rejected at a whim by the RM management/the Government.

I'm ashamed that a so call Labour Government is doing the Tories dirty work for them.

RM needs to modernise, that is accepted by all. What it did not need was provate companies creaming off the proiftable contracts leaving them with largely small business and domestic mail. It should have been left as a natural monopoly run IN THE PUBLIC INTERST.

    Oi Nutkins

    You might be dissapointed.

Claus Enterprises PLC now subcontracts a lot of his deliveries.

They found they couldn't keep up with demand, what with all the immigrants wanting presents (despite being heathens) so they only do a few deliveries in person nowadays and only to A list celebs and Aristo's.

    RE: sack em

That's what they are going to go. Use immigrants who can't read the roman script (doh)

    nationalise everything....

..make bosses compete to keep their jobs - be efficient and socially responsible or you're out - but with no golden handshake or whatever.

also - film it all, turning it into reality tv - some folk will watch owt, advertisers will love it.

think of the revenue from the phone votes - coining it in in no time!!!

it could be like the apprentice meets the office meets the running man (if my idea for series two gets commisioned!!)
