    Echoes of Lea, Butler, Mahoney...

What was the Barnsley forward line when you started?

Couple of years on me there JLWBL. Was it George Hamstead who worked for a housing association in the mid nineties? Rented a house in Grimethorpe (I know...) and an ex-player was their rep. Was it him?

No, you are thinking of George Boardman there. George Hampstead opened a fishing tackle shop in Bury when he retired. In my first season we had Bob Earnshaw on the Right wing, George Hampstead on the left and we signed Johnny Evans and Barrie Thomas that season. My first game was a rainy Tuesday night, 0 0 draw against Workington Town. I thought "what have I done to deserve this".......and 50 odd years later:
