That might just be because he is a thousand times better than Paddy and the rest of the team are good enough to allow Messi the luxury of not having to work as hard, unlike the Barnsley players that Paddy has with him !

Laughing at Messi being compared, however loosely, to Paddy.

To be fair it was as much a comment about messi's seeming disinterest and lack of effort, as it was a paddy mccourt inference.

I dont watch much european football, does he play like this every week?

I don't watch a lot either so cant really comment on Barcelona but I think tonight is more a reflection of how good of a job the Dutch are doing to keep him out of the game.

I wasnt fishing.. If any bansley player stood and let the centre halfs pass the ball round him like messi is doing, he'd get slaughtered for lack of effort. I dont doubt his skill on the ball.

Messi not had the most prolific of tournaments but all that can change in the blink of an eye.
The Dutch have defended against him superbly.
He will probably score now I've said that.

I get where your coming from Mark.
Not a lot to be excited about with events at Oakwell at the moment or maybe I'm becoming more cynical as I get older.
A 5 game winning streak at the start of the season may stun me out of my current mindset.

First time I've seen a full game in which Messi has played. Ever. What's all the fuss about?

Watch him for Barcelona in the Champions league Jay. Thats the real test for the top players and you will see a different player.

    Class class player.

plus anyone that says he doesn't work hard for the team aren't telling the truth. Again for Barca hes the first line of defense. press high, press fast and win the ball

The World Cup is a higher leave than the champions league. Just to let you know.

You are aware that the World Cup is the real test for top players. It separates talented and good players such as Rooney from the truly world class like James Rodriquez. It's a very narrow view of football to think the Champions League is the epitome of football. You confuse where the money is and where the true test of football is.

I can't believe Messi's been compared to McCourt!

Obvious difference is Messi's playing in a good team not on the back foot most of the time.

When you're battling relegation & have inferior players to most of the teams you're playing then you need every player to put a shift in defensively.

Apparently he's not fully fit. Heard that on a World Cup podcast but when you're as good as Messi I guess you can afford to be carried.

The champions league & World Cup are of a pretty similar standard for me. You've got 6 or 7 top sides then another 10 or so decent teams & then a few also rans
