Messrs Cryne and Shepherd - ever been in one of those corner shops...............

.........where they're trying to operate on too small a budget and trade their way out of a poor cash flow situation?

You know the ones, there's not much on the shelves and they often don't have what you want. Meanwhile down the road the local mimi-mart with its fully stocked shelves is attracting all the business.

You'd think they'd take a leaf out of the mini-mart's books and invest a little wouldn't you? Fill the shelves up, make you want to come in. Speculate to accumilate.

They invariably suffer a slow death and are left to contemplate the folly of overestimating the loyalty of their customers.

    Daft aren't they?

    good analogy

We've got one of them at the end of our estate. Shuts down every few months, new owners come in and try the exact same philosophy. It never works. It needs some centre halves.

You don't mean a bit like Sheff Utd, for example?

Sheff Weds are in a similar financial situation to us and look where they are.
Those that can, do, and those that won't, don't.

You won't catch me in the mini-mart but I sure as hell won't be going to the corner shop again until I can be reasonably sure that what I buy isn't going to make me sick.

    That's me done for now.

In fairness, Wenzdee have never come as close to losing their club forever as we did.

I think that's it's a salutory lesson. Perhaps we've learned it too well, though.

And I'm giving my corner shop due notice as well.

If the stock and product get no better I will not be pushasing one of their loyalty cards next season.

    It that case

We should have kept Fola Onabuje cause he'd have been able to get stuff off the top shelf

As a business man I'd a thought you would realise that throwing cash at a problem doesn't work. They have to strip the club down to cash neutral and see where it sits league-wise. Then they can look to invest in a quality player or two.
