Wasn't sure at first but after close inspection, sure enough it was Jacob Mellis who was out in Tokyo in Huddersfield tonight. He seemed to be having a good night out with RNL who I didn't recognize at first and actually asked him if it was Mellis who he was out with. He didn't seem too disappointed that he wasn't recognized first though! Pretty sure it was just me and my mates that recognized either of them anyhow.

I had a good chat with Mellis about the team. He admitted that he hadn't been fit the first few games but was determined he would improve as he got fitter over the next couple of weeks. He was very happy with his header against Bristol and was genuinely pleased that he now had the chance to play week in, week out, at this level. I told him he was my Man of the Match this afternoon. I genuinely thought he was excellent today. He spread some great balls about and the way he wriggled away from 3 Blackpool players in the second half was top class. If he keeps on improving he could become as good as his namesake Butterfield.

He really rates the young players in the squad. He reckoned that Stones could potentially be moving to a "premier league club like Evetton" in January and he thinks Jordan Clark is top class, technically one of the best players we have at the club. He also thought that RNL deserved more of a chance and is a better player than Matty Done but I'm not sure if that was just because they are good mates.

Overall Mellis seemed a genuinely nice bloke, he didn't mind having a long chat in a club with a season ticket holder on his night off, and he certainly cares about what the supporters think of him. I told him if he keeps on putting the effort in and continues improving as he has been he will certainly become a fans favourite. He seemed to be very chuffed about that! Despite the bad press he's had recently, it's nice to see a young player who cares about the club and doesn't just see us as a stepping stone to greater things!

    Keep it up Jacob! :)

Thanks for that. And I must say, you write a much better post than I could at 4a.m. after a night out!

Good player - it was a daft thing he did at Chelsea but it wasn't like he shot someone with an air rifle. That is a sack able offence ...

Not surprised Mellis was enjoying the first freshers saturday of the new uni year :) He'd have been enjoying it alot more if he'd been recognised as the money grabbing wannabe WAGS would have been swarming. Nice report lad. Tokyo is tiny so will have been rammed last night I imagine.

Writes a better post than I do at 4pm after doing bugger all except potter about & stare at the wall.

Don't like the idea of Stones going in January, Mellis shouldn't really be saying stuff like that about his colleagues. Might be in the office Monday morning if Keith reads this which I'm sure he will!

I doubt it was intended to sound like that regarding stones and everton. Probably meant if he carries on playing like he has been doing, clubs like everton (middle table prem clubs) will come sniffing come January.
Also I can't see the comment about him saying rnl is better than done been true personally. Why would you say that about a team mate?
