Was looking on Chicago news website

Talking about sub-zero temperatures, and I thought "aye ok, so what?!", until I realised they were talking fahrenheit!
It's -16c there during the day! A few accidents on the roads but mainly things are operating ok!

Similar once when a friend there told me they had 4 feet of snow, it didn't register at first! And then she said that it was ok though as the main roads downtown were open as was the rail line for the airport!

-16 during the day and 4 feet of snow

call that cold .... my dad .. in 1963 etc etc

To be honest it's quite impressive in States/Canada that they shrug it off and just get on with it.

It has to be something to with that they are geared up for it. In England it's probably not worth the amount of equipment, men ,grit etc on standby just on the off chance. Over there, they know it's gonna hit, and need to budget for the resources to keep the city / economy going.

We take pot luck, cos it's more efficient to be banjaxed for a few days a year, rather that to pay to be fully prepared.
