Can't post links on this phone, but just read an Ipswich article (their version of The Star) which states he is set to sign for Wednesday and former manager Dave Jones this week.
This, after a move to Barnsley collapsed last week.
If nobody beats me to it, by the time I get home to the laptop, I will find and post said link.

    Good man.
    So, thoughts people?
Personally, if we were indeed in for him (I doubt it, doesn't fit with Flicker's ethos IMO) then I reckon we should be happy it collapsed.
Loads of reasons why. Pick any you want.
But I hope the Wednesday bit is true. They'll hate him and vice versa within a month.

Was a reyt laiker when we had him before.

Not sure he'd fit with flick's ethos, like you say YT.

I'd give him a chance if he came back here, but not gutted if he isn't.

(Insert "worth a gamble" joke here)

He has to take a pay cut if Wednesday are on the brink of landing him, no way can they afford to pay him that every week.

Would have loved to have had Chopra down at Oakwell. I know he's got issues behind the scenes and the pressure could have been on a little bit with how good he was at us last time but he is naturally a goalscorer and the type of player we need. A better choice then McClean for me but wages are always going to be an issue with him due to the experience he's had.

We do need a quality plug and play striker for the beginning of the season...just not him.

More like can't take a pay cut! He probably owes bad misters a lot of pennies!

    Exactly.

And I don't take kindly to footballers who tweet pictures of themselves holding wads of cash.

If Wednesday 'loved' Bothroyd they'll adore Michael. It's odds on.

I think he fits in with Flicker's ethos. Both Keith Hill and David Flitcroft have no concerns at all with signing players who have gone off the rails. Be that in a football sense where a talented player is underachieving or in a more general sense where they have no qualms in signing players with personal problems or if they've been in trouble with the law or, as is the case with Chopra, they have gambling problems.

Keith and David not only believe they can make their signings better players, they believe they can make them better people. Probably even more so with David than Keith. Good on 'em I say. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were in for Chopra. Doesn't mean it's true like, but Chopra is an excellent footballer who I'm sure Flicker would love to work with and I would imagine he also believes he could help Chopra with his life problems.

Having said all that, if we did go in for him I'm not surprised the deal broke down. Even if we smashed our pay structure we'd not be able to offer Chopra anywhere near what he's accustomed to. I think he'd be more interested in the money than someone who believes he can help him.

I'd take his goals but not his baggage. That said I hope he has his life back in order. Great player when all is well

Signing Chopra? Nothing. But I was just highlighting the sort of players we've signed since both Keith and David arrived at the club.

    Nice tone btw.

yeh was going to use a darker shade of black but opted to stay standard instead :)

wasn't trying to be abusive btw, but hill's thankfully long gone, let flicker stamp his own personality on the team instead of still being linked to hill

Completely agree with that mate, I just think the one good quality that Keith had that David now shares with him is that they're not afraid to take a risk on players that are considered outcasts or come with a lot of baggage.

I see your point, but I find it hard to compare their work with the likes of Vaz, Etuhu and Mellis, to a project like Chopra. He's an addict. He's 30 years old this December. And as proven with Mido/Ranger, some gambles aren't worth it.

"I've told these lads - it's not about money, it's about making memories"

Can't for the life of me see Chopra buying into that.

He's on a rumoured £18,000 a week. Even if paid off by Ipswich, he'd surely want a wage with us that would top our wage bill?

4 goals was it last season, in 30 something appearances?

Michael Chopra, pre-addiction was a talent with great potential.

I see nothing in him now as either a player or human being that suggests to me that Flicker would even be tempted.

But I fully expect him to tell those attending the meet tonight that he indeed did try and sign him. :D Because I'm often wrong.

They'll have some great games of three-card brag on the Wednesday coach. I think we are well out of that one.
