Now that Michael Owen has signed for Newcastle , Chopra is well down the pecking order behind Shearer , Owen , Luque (sp) , Ameobi and Dyer ( Souness says he wants to play him as a striker ) . Before anyone comments , I'm well aware that he's injured at the moment and we seem to be in the habit of signing crocks . However , according to our official site , he's expected to be back by mid - September . Personally , I'd love it if we could re sign Chopra .

I believe ligament damage was the injury wasn't it?

Probably too much of a risk to sign him now. If he has a set back he may be out for the whole loan spell. Might be a better bet to look again in the January transfer window.

The chairman said last week they had never stopped trying to get him.

Just going on what was said on the official site .

If it was knee ligaments , I agree with you mate .It'd be a huge risk . However , if the BFC site is correct , then he'd be fit to play in a couple of weeks .
