Over the top? I seem to remember that a woman who cheated on her husband had motorways closed for her when she died. Thousands of people lining streets, flowers thrown all over london etc.
And yet found not guilty Think what you like about him but Michael Jackson put a smile on the face of millions and quite possibly billions of people at some point during his life.
To eliminate the risk of him going to jail I would have thought. The money was probably of little or no value to him. Even if there is little evidence then you are still at the mercy of the Jury and there is therefore a risk. If I had the option to eliminate the risk of life imprisonment, no matter how small that risk was, then I'd take it. In hindsight it was probably the wrong decision because it cast a shadow over him but I can understand why he did it. If you fully look into both cases against him there was no a great deal of evidence which could have justified a conviction (especially in the second case).
