On one of his train journeys across North America he stopped off at a place called Cudworth in Canada.
    I wonder if there's a connection?

Driving from Vancouver to the Rockies we passed a tiny hamlet called Darfield. If we'd blinked we would have missed it!

Probably no connection. (Certainly to your post). But I found it interesting once when researching my home village Jump. The same name Cropped up in America or Canada can't remember which. Appeared desolate.

There is an estate in Camden with blocks of flats called Darfield, Thurnscoe, Warmsworth, Mexborough, Barnborough and Billingley - among others.

There's a Darfield in New Zealand not far out.of Christchurch. It was a Barnsley miner who founded that community and named it after his home village

Ah, you mean similarities between Cudworth in Canada and Cudworth in Barnsley. I thought you meant the similarities between Cudworth and the word that describes Portillo, because they both start with the same first two letters.

There was a place in North Wales that intrigued me. Llandudno Junction. Was it just the name of the station or the place name?

The title is actually a little misleading. It’s a great song however

Why is Llandudno Junction Called Llandudno Junction?
I wish there was a cooler answer for this. But alas, the village grew around Llandudno Junction railway station. This station is a junction for trains to Llandudno and the Conwy Valley Line.

    Hence, Llandudno Junction.

There's the main Chester-Holyhead line and at Llandudno Juction there's a branch North to Llandudno (2 miles ) and a branch line South to Betws-Y-Coed.
