Hardly! Michael Vaughan - test average 42+, probably on a par with the other batters in the side (Pietersen excepted). Mike Brearley about 23, by far the worse in the side. I know overall batters are averaging more nowadays but only by about 5 or so.
Didn't realise his average was that good ......... ........ he always looks dodgy to me when he's batting, then again he has had some good knocks as well over the last few years, think he's on the downslide overall though, maybe all his injuries are taking their toll
RE: Didn't realise his average was that good ......... I bet Vaughan has a better percentage win record than Brearley plus he had Willis and Botham. For some reason though I agree with you.
RE: Didn't realise his average was that good ......... Pretty even in tests. Brearley was 34 when he made his test debut. Agree about having more to work with but he got the best out of most players. MB W18 L4 D9 MV W22 L6 D9
He was averaging 50 not overly long ago... Looks hopeless to me this season, both for Yorkshire and England.
