done a brilliant job, but think he's right to do so. his form has gone and can be hidden when we win, but not when we lose

Agree, right time for him to go so new captain has 2 tours to settle in before the ashes. Strauss or Rob Key should be new skipper for me.

Key isn't good enough to be in the side

I think Richard Blakey should do it, or David Byas

Cook will be the captain eventually, might have come a bit too soon this time round, but not many other candidates who are in enough form to get picked for the winter tbh!!!

    Rob Key.Don't talk daft

Not even good enough to get close to getting in the team before we even start on his captaincy skills

Cook or Strauss I think. KP isn't captain material I don't think

yes Strauss is the best candidate I think

Pietersen's attempted 6 the other day showed a weakness in his game and his personality - he is apparently unable to adjust his extravagant batting style to the match situation and to the needs of the team. I've heard people say how come he's getting the most criticism when he scored 94, but he knew he was set and that England needed a big innings, but he threw it away anyway - and I still maintain Collingwood should not have tried it as it could so easily have gone wrong and robbed England of even the chance of victory.

I am a big Vaughan fan and I hope he can get some runs for Yorkshire, which he has not done on the same scale as for England in the past, meaning he will be able to have a good future international career. Alec Stewart and others have carried on well after holding the captaincy. Vaughan has done the right thing, he said he was not himself at home and hopefully he will be able to give renewed concentration to his batting.

Ironically, in the second innings at Edgbaston he looked in fine form, and it's sod's law that when you're in bad knick a drive that never reaches a height of more than four inches sticks in mid on's hand.

Can't see Strauss myself now Collingwood has stepped down as well think they will be looking for a captain for both forms of game. Pietersen no 1 candidate for me.

And don't know how people can keep criticising him for playing his natural game, that's the way he as always played and as for his weaknesses wish rest of England squad could average what he does.

    My England side for Oval

    Cook
    Key
    Strauss
    Pietersen (c)
    Bell
    Flintoff
    Prior
    S.Jones
    Harmison
    Hoggard
    Monty

Maybe he has excellent leadership qualities that outweigh his inadequecies as a batsman

A few people in the game are saying it should be him

key's had a good couple of seasons but obviously stills struggles with his fitness (weight!), dont fancy strauss, too nice too middle class, give pieterson a chance, he's world class and a winner, despite his inexperience.

Why make him Captain. Not good enough to get in the side 18 months ago.
