Whatever happened to him? Last i heard he ended up being an electrician at the pit again (don't know if this was true?). I liked t'owld Mick - didn't he break his leg twice in one season? First time i ever watched Barnsley was against Bradford City and he came on as sub in the second half and scored both goals to earn us a 2-2 draw after we had been 2-0 down. I was gutted when he went to Huddersfield...... Mind you; we did get £20,000 and John Saunders!

I think he lived at Royston, just off that lane that goes to Golf course at Staincross

One of my three all-time Barnsley favourites

Along with Pat Howard and Ronnie Glavin . I was distraught when he signed for Huddersfield Town , the club I detest more than any other on this planet .

Played against him when he was player manager at Royston Cross.
Was still a decent player into his forties.

If memory serves me right... didn't he score for Huddersfield during his first visit back to the 'well?
And what about the consecutive hat tricks? Away at Newport and then at home to Rochdale... I loved going down to Oakwell when i was a nipper!

    Yup , you're right mate

October 1976 , he equalised an earlier John Peachey goal , with his first of the season for Huddersfield Town. However , after Butler's goal , Barnsley went straight downfield and won a penalty . Brian Joicey scored and we won 2-1 .

Brian Joicey...... 29 goals he got in 76/77, including a hat trick against Boston in the FA Cup. He must be our highest goalscorer of the season since Cecil McCormack?
Talking of Huddersfield; i can remember a certain Neil Warnock chap scoring against them in an FA Cup tie at the 'well.

    Broke his leg at Workington

as i remember, also saw him for the first time away at Barrow, he was about the only Barnsley player ever to get a full colour page picture in the old football league review, remember that mag they used to give away free in most football programmes in the late 60's-early 70's,
one of my all time favs
