Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? Serously now, would it be a daft idea to try and get Mick McCarthy installed for next season. He is a local lad he is TOTALLY loved by the tykes fans, and would get them behind him more than any other manager since Danny Wilson. Would he pick up the poison chalice that is Oakwell though??
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? Absolutely no chance and we have a manager who I hope will still be here next season.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? And please explain the reasons why we should remove Hill?
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? I hope that KH will be with us for the forseeable future. How do you think MM would cope with his best players being sold and having to source their replacements from the lower leagues.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? I hope that one day Mick McCarthy will get the chance to manage here, but I also think it's extremely disrespectful to the current management team to suggest he should do it any time soon. We need stability, and I'm sure Hill & Flitcroft will improve us hugely if they're given the time to do it.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? Exactly. There's the same handful of posters on here who have wanted every manager we've had sacked. They need to really get some perspective or work out what it really is that is making them so miserable
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? MM probably wouldnt cope any better either,,,,,to put things into perspective, when we were in the lower half of the old 4th division we'd have given our left boll ox to be where we are now.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? Hopefully in the future but Hill should be here for at least another couple of seasons. Unless he leaves I can't see a change, and wouldn't want one.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? Why would he manage us? He's used to a big wage and a big transfer kitty at big clubs. Here he would have the opposite in all three catergories. I don't think he'd risk his legendary status as a player by coming here when he could well flop as a manager.
No. As much as I've hammered hill today and last week, overall he has done a fantastic job. I Think the frustration is we know we could have had a little bit better at times. And we are all **** scared of free falling into a none event season.
So for the first time this season we have posts relating to the manager departing Shock horror, they're from thereev and Dragon Tyke. I'm sure Orsenkaht won't be far behind.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? That round about sums up the problem with football today!
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? I think he will manage us one day. It's a matter of timing though. And Keith's time is not up yet. Although the more the fans continue to drift away from Oakwell the more necessary that kind of inspired move will be.
Re: Mick McCarthy, could we???..would he??? I can't ever see MM taking over, because he's used to working with a budget, and I reckon he gets paid a fair whack. Two things we should never ever subscribe to again, massive playing budgets and overpriced managers. Been there, done that. Also, despite criticisms over tactics, formation and post match interviews, Hill and Flicker are doing a cracking job, and will hopefully be here, doing the same brilliant things in years to come.
Ia sked this question 10 years ago.... ... when we were in administration, Parkin had gone, and Hodges was in temporary charge. Someone posted that they had been to "An evening with Mick McCarthy" at Cubley Hall, or somewhere like that, and he had been asked that. His reply was on the lines of "I'm something of a hero at Oakwell, and I wouldn't want to come back and ruin that reputation". Not an exact quote, but that was the gist of it. And why should we change? FFS we have a management team that is doing brilliant if you look at the resources they have. 1st half yesterday was crap, I don't think Hill would deny that. But at half-time they must have been given a right rocket up the 'arris, because 2nd half was 100% better. This season is about staying up. You can see that Hill has had instructions to cut the wage bill, which is why the high-earners are on their way out. The players he's bringing in need time, especially the ones that joined in January. They are from a lower league, and will need to get used to this one. Hill and Flitcroft are making THEIR team from the players THEY believe will do the job.
Re: Ia sked this question 10 years ago.... From what I remember if we are talking about the same thing Fired asked someone who would see him to ask him the question and he replied that it would be more likely Hammill coming back to Barnsley than himself.
Re: Ia sked this question 10 years ago.... Would think Macca would want 250k p.a. as a minimum. I doubt Hill is on more than a fifth of that.
