And must serve a minimum of 15 years. Mairead Philpott & Paul Mosley have both been sentenced to 17 years.

I hate that it's called life when that's not what it really means. So in 17 years (or probably less) we'll have child killers on the loose again? Oh goody!

The law is an ass. Mick Philpott is said to be the one who instigated it so he is given life imprisonment, which apparently equates to 15 years. His co-conspirators, thought to be less to blame, are not given life, but are sentenced to 17 years. Which is longer than what he got for life! What the buggering ****?!

I think the point is they'll serve less than 17 years inside. They'll be released on tag, parole etc and then resume 'normal' life after 17 years.

Philpott will always be on tag and curfew for the rest of his life. I think.

Just explained this on News mate, apparently Mick has to serve at least 15 years, he CANNOT get out before that 15 years is up, he may get out after, he may not, it just depends if he is still a Danger to public, if he does get out, for rest of his life if he breaches his rules he will be soon back in prison
For the other 2 they have got 17 Years but will only do half, then they will be let out and serve rest of time on parol, and same as Mick, if they breach rules in the remaining time they will get arrested again

He will serve a minimum of 15 years and will be on licence for the rest of his life. The other two may be eligible for parole after 10 years or so.

I think that's well understood they will be well out before then, may not even do ten.. Philpot has life, minimum 15 meaning absolutely no chance of parole til then. I hope is balls shrivel to nowt in that time.

TBH The sentences are not really long enough when you consider the end result of their stupid actions.
No doubt they will appeal their sentences adding more insult to injury.
As has been posted, the law in this country is a fkn joke.

R.I.P. to the innocent children. You did not deserve this.

Realistically, child killers are not popular in prison. High profile ones even less so. What are the odds of all three of them still being alive (and in one piece) by the time parole is even a possibility...

I know most folk would baulk at the idea of swapping our rule of law for Islamic law, but the Islamic law of qisas, or retribution, Dictates that if an offender cannot afford to pay substantial compensation to the victims family then they must suffer the same fate endured by the victim. In this case, being guided by qisas would be appropriate, burn the ba'stards.

It is worse than that. On the same day that a six time child killer gets life (circa 15 years) an ex copper (Nicholas McFadden) gets twenty three years for stealing seized drugs and planning to sell them on. The justice system in this country is a sick joke.
