I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet, but his managerial record is absolutely superb -

    Played 225, Won 116, Drawn 58, Lost 51

Now, I know that most of that was in non-league and it doesn't mean I'm advocating him as our full-time manager, but I would guess that he certainly isn't the numpty a lot of people on here automatically assume he is just because he isn't a big name.

Best example I can think of, top of my head, Micky Adams, dreadful at the Lane, got Port Vale top of League 2.

It means nothing, the level and gulf is massive. Totally unproven at higher level, and tbh I'm sick of up and coming managers

Meson all the way for this job.

His hands were tied behind his back it Bramall Lane. Big squad of mostly **** players and no money to spend. As will be the hands of anyone who comes in at Oakwell. Even Arsene Wenger would struggle to keep us up this season.

He had massive resources at Fleetwood though, much more than the rest of the conference. Not saying that negates his record but it does add context.

Spot on with Mickey Adams though. Sheff utd were a club in terminal decline

Agreed absolutely. As I said, I'm not advocating that we employ him, we definitely need someone with experience higher up the ladder to give us the best possible chance of getting out of our current mess. However, there is no reason to think that he is anything other than at very least a competent football manager. The way some people are reacting to his arrival at the club, you would think we'd given the job to Gary Glitter.

If the club appointed Mellon as manager I would be disappointed but would be prepared to give him a chance he would be a gamble but one that might pay off
The problem is more I cant get any enthusiasm for him being a number 2 to Flitcroft who is part of a failed package

different league so it's hard to compare, did'nt Hill have something similar in lower league , when you think of teams in championship it's hard to apply
