had a e74 1 red light erro tonight on my console and rung microsoft only to be told i had to pay 68 quid to repair!!!

dont get me wrong the money is'nt the issue here its the big power attitude which i did'nt like.

Long story short had the console 13 months! ..1 month out of warranty so did some digging apparently theres a sales of goods act(amended) that gives the retailer (gamestation) the repsonsibilty to exchange the console within an acceptable period as long as its not a manmade problem as such.

so anyhow gunna ring gamestation tommorrow to speak to them and see what can be done.

It looks like i should get it sorted but i wonder how many more people have just paid and not looked into, not saying i will get it exchanged but i am gunna go down fighting!

Same happened to me mate

Paid the 68 quid and kicked off at the woman at Microsoft how advised me I could also have another 12 months warrenty so did think that was so bad. The 12 months extra made it easier to sell - I would advise you do that - as it MAY have more problems in a year or so.

We had exactly the same problem and console also 13 month old. Got nowhere with Microsoft. Ended up paying £50 to another comp to repair.

the ps3 is nowhere near the xbox but unfortunatley its more stable. I am hoping that i will get a new console from the retailer as with the sales and goods act etc so will see.

also i have had the ps3 before and i dont rate it 1 bit so thats why i got the 360

PS3's are more reliable
Online play is free
and as far as i can see, most of the games are the same
played on a 360 before, not noticed any difference to a PS3 personally, so why people think they are better than a PS3 puzzle's me.

becasue the online on the 360 is far and i mean far superior to the ps3. also the games just seemed smoother to me on the 360 and more of my mates have 360?

Not syaing the ps3 is terrible but not a match for 360 yet however the stability issue might be microsofts stumbling block, but based on the fact people keep getting them repaired shows how good the system is.

Didn't Microsoft...

Extend all their warranties to 3 years because there were so many problems?

You can buy an x-clamp repair kit off ebay for about £4 that'll fix the problem for you if you're into DIY. I've done it myself a couple of times. It'll void your warranty but since you apparently don't have one it shouldn't matter. Unless you get some joy at Gamestation like...

Oh and if you need any help on it go on www.llama.com and go on their forums. Xbox geeks on there, good and proper...

For me it's cos the PS3 cost abart a million quid more.

I wor going to look at a PS3 when all the production issues had been sorted and the prices started to drap (as with t' PS2) but the feckers are still at a premium. Bloody Sony.

Ok update and please anyone with an xbox dont line there pockets.

The sales of goods act 1979 (ameded) was put in place to protect you as the customer and it gives you 6 years where the retailer can be responsible for any problems that might occur. My xbox was bought in jan 08 and is out of warranty by 1-2 months and there seems to be alot of problems with the machine at around this date. Now my issue was that i dont use it alot and this problem should not have occured to me or others so early in its life. If you buy a car and it develops a common fault normally the manufactuer will call them back and amend it. The xbox 3 yrs cover is only for full ring of death (4 lights) and if you get any of the other faults they try and charge you 68 quid. I called the retailer in question who i bought the console from gave them my rights and they are happily going to exchang to a 60 gig brand new console with 12 month warranty free of charge which microsft wanted 68.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LINE THERE POCKETS....i dread to think how many people have paid them when by law you are protected!

When the price of a Ps3 is mention everyone says you are paying for what you get

Same with Xbox live - you pay yes but what you get is far better than PS3 on line

From what I can make out if the fault is inherent, you have up to five years to be able to claim for a repair and this fault sounds as though it is so the number of people complaining about it
