Finished with 9 players who'd come through the Academy and put up a great fight. Left-back (Bennett) in particular looked quality. Can't remember Middlesbrough beating us too regularly at Acadmey level. Are we missing the boat on our Academy youngsters by not giving them game time in the Championship? RNL, Clarke, Digby, Rose etc get a few minutes from the bench but would be be better off blooding them for two or three games at a time to help their progress? Just a thought.

Hopefully we are safe sooner rather than later, then we can give them all a good run out in the remaining games to see who is ready for first team action next season

saw there u18's at oakwell and it was hard to watch for them. u18 (max number of u19's) and they defended and hit barnsley on break. Boro actually won 2-0 but it was easy to see who the better team was.

On to barnsley u18's, they wont just be first team regulars. we might have to wait another 2 years for clark and defo Rose. Rose just needs to get stronger but hes always been a year behind in that.

Its an interesting one. Boro only played so many youngsters due to everyone else being crippled.

The comparative difference between the two clubs young players is that when barnsleys get to eighteen they stop developing.

dt, why do you think that is?

i dont think that will happen with this bunch but do you think first team football would help.

IMO RNL NEEDS it. Also look at the way ot helped Joe hart, struridge, wilshire , Philips at blackpool
