An awesome problem to have, but is it possible to have Perks, Daws, Kelvin and Mellis in the same line up? Goldie will resume his normal position next season, and I assume a new LWB will be brought in. Personally think playing all 4 affects our shape. IMO, Kelvin & Mellis are no brainers. Which leaves a choice between Perks & Daws. Can all 4 play in the same 3-5-2 formation? A Stones loan deal (yeah I know, not gonna happen) would be ferocious....Stones, Goldie, Kelvin, Mellis, Perks/Daws...wow!
All 4 can't play in a 3-5-2 I don't think. Only way would be if Dawson played RWB. We managed to fit them into a 4-4-2 yesterday with Mellis on the left, Etuhu and Perkins in the middle and Dawson on the right. Steele Cranie _____ Kennedy Wiseman Etuhu Perkins Golbourne Mellis O'Grady Dagnall That's a decent line up with Dawson interchangeable with Etuhu and Perkins.
We still need cover at LWB - better with someone who is versatile and can play that position well as well as other positions, we can't afford to have someone sat waiting who is purely there only to be used if Golbourne gets injured.
Well Kelvin looks to be no 1 at the minute and rightly so...look at the Hudders game, to keep him in his best role...both Dawson and O'Brien were moved out to other positions...which a few months..nay..weeks ago would not have been the case...
I think you may be taking what was the case at the end of the season and overlooking what the situation was earlier on. Before Dawson got injured he was awsome and must have been first name on the teamsheet. Somehow I think he will reassert himself and become very difficult to leave out no matter what formation. The other thing is retention - will all those mentioned be there at the start of next season. If they are I think we will have a lot to be optimisitic about - especially if Flicker wins his point with the board about being more committed to improving the team. Going to be a very interesting close season.
I'm unsure about Mellis defensively, doesn't always track back and when he does he often doesn't even put a challenge in. Yes he has a few goals and assists but can't help thinking any of the others playing in his position would do the same.
No am not he's played wide a lot in his career and on Saturday it would have been very easy to play him wide to stop Scannell and the fullbacks runs, but Flicker choose not to...don't get me wrong..I love Dawson to bits..but kelvins found his nit-ch there, in that centre defensive midfield role..first name on the team sheet now, for me
Wasn't the word from Flicker that Noble- Lazarus was being trained to play LWB over the summer in terms of cover? He was certainly capable this season when he tried it.
Nonsense! The others have nowhere near the creative eye he has. That's not even a criticism to them they are just better in other areas. When you already have 2 of perks dawson and etuhu in midfield you dont need MORE defensive cover you need the creative spark Mellis gives. Or would you rather we started with a team of defensive midfielders just because they put in "enough of a shift" for you.
Without two ball winners in the middle, Mellis looks absent. Agreed. But that's not his role. Put ball winners in the middle, and he's a game changer. I think kelvin has become our lynchpin in the middle, and has gone past both perks and daws, IMO.
---------------------Steele -----Wiseman-------Hassell-------Cranie ------------Etuhu-------Perkins Dawson---------------------------Golbourne -------------------Mellis -------------COGba---Daggers O'Brien, Foster, RNL, TK, Digby, Rose, Marlon, Jason, Cywka, Jones. No fear. No worries. Two or three additions and we're a good shout for promotion (currently 66/1). Bournemouth btw, are 16/1 to WIN the league next season... do they know summat I don't?
