in your opinion, what is our best midfield, we have 4 good central midfielders in mcphail, burns, howard and kell. ritchie cant keep changing them every match! just as he cant keep changing the strikers...... what im trying to get at is what is our best team?
In my opinion Howard should replace Devaney on the left, and McPhail and Burns should play central. playing all three should allow Shuker more freedom to get forward. if he's having another off day, Devaney to come on and replace. Kell needs a spell in the reserves or out on loan, we cant afford to play players who arent match fit.
Burns has to start. I think mcphail is too much of a luxury at the minute, and we should go with either kell or howard. Probably howard until kell is fully fit. mcphail to come on as sub if a game needs turning. **edit** changed my mind, I would go with SM. Start with howard on the left, which gives us something extra, so maybe mcphail can have the time he needs. Its a bit harsh on devaney, but he hasnt done much last couple of games, and would make an excellent sub when defences are tiring.
I also think if we are hitting long balls to Wright/Richards and they win something in the air, better chance that Shuker might nip in and win a free kick outside the box. seems like our most likely route to scoring these days. perhaps play Shuker just behind the front 2. I would definately play Kay if he is fully fit. If not, Hassell and Reid as centre backs, Austin to right back, Heck left back.
RE: I also think I think we have to stop hitting the long balls. We dont have the players to do it. When we get it down and play we cause problems. When we hit it long, we cause ourself problems.
RE: howard for devaney? surely that would limit our attacking ability, (if we still have some) that would mean we rely heavily on shuker to get down then wing. to be honest cant see howard doing that, needs to lose a bit of weight soon! ne way strikers? plz dont say pub man! ff
Typically Hayes works the left channel, and Howard at least gets the ball down and looks up to spot a run. Devaney sometimes has to beat the same man 3 times before he looks to pass.
