..racist. Looking at the difference between the ideal and the realistic the EU is finally waking up to the reality. Tusk has issued a statement (probably pointless) telling Economic Migrants NOT to come to Europe. Stable door and bolting horses spring to mind and it won't stop them coming anyway.
Nevertheless it does signal that the EU s finally waking up to the reality that 1m people per annum influx will ultimately destabilise Europe.

Personally, given that the majority (and it IS true to say) of people trying to enter are young single men I am getting a bit fed up with the subliminal propaganda on the BBC news website. What do I mean? Well virtually EVERY picture relating to migrants be it Calais, Turkey, Macedonia Greece, Italy ALWAYS highlights children, women with babies and single women with small children. Whilst these are the real victims and the ones who need help it masks and distorts the reality that the huge numbers result from hundreds of thousands of 'chancers'

In the background of most of those pictures featuring women and children you can see crowds of migrants in the main made up of young single men.

No one denies a humanitarian crisis exists but glossing over the problem of economic migrants doesn't help. This may be happening but why dont they block single men at the borders and fast-track the women and children. Certainly those causing the trouble/ rioting at the borders and causing criminal damage should automatically be blocked. Nobody denies the right of people to try and improve their lives but not through illegal and criminal actions that adversely affect others going about their daily lives. We all have to abide by rules otherwise society collapses.

You are correct. When I was in Budapest in December I asked why they were blocking their frontiers to refugees and the answer was that the vast majority were single men, who had been responsible for leaving rubbish everywhere they went.

Those young men are often leaving families behind. Of course there are more men as women almost always have the burden of looking after their families. I don't know your own personal story, Tekkytyke, but if you have chosen to live in Italy then it seems strange to have such a strong aversion to letting people try to better their own lives, for whatever reason, rather than calling them 'chancers'. Chancers? Like it is some cheeky day out, not stuck for weeks on end and thousands of miles of drudgery and now tear gas.

Its different for him wanting to move to another country because he happened to be shot out of his mother in England so he is entitled to and deserves a better standard of living than all those people that chose to be slopped out in poverty stricken areas and therefore deserve to spend the rest of their lives in poverty.

Re: Migration! At the risk of stirring up the hornets nest again.. and being called.

But surely you can see the difference between someone who migrates with a passport, pays taxes, applies for residency, doesn't claim any benefits and supports himself and partner (now retired) after a lifetime of work and taxes ad pension contributions and people trying to enter illegally with none of these?
Where did I say I have an aversion to people trying to better themselves (provided they do it legally)? In fact I said the opposite in my OP. Yes they ARE chancers. Most paid criminals to smuggle them ILLEGALLY without paperwork (many destroy it to avoid deportation) any of those a Calais did not want t leave the camp as they thought it would mean they would have to apply for asylum in France and they want to come to Britain. They are in no in danger in France so YES they are chancers and YES economic migrants not asylum seekers

SO do you agree with anarchic behaviour to get what you want?

These bloody retired immigrant chancers. Coming over to Italy after paying a lifetime of taxes in England to suck dry our good Italian public services.

Sadly there are a number of 'Idealists' with no concept of the real world. Unable to distinguish between legal migration with positive economic outcome for destination country and Illegal migrants economically dependent on target country. And they call me hypocritical.

Anyone who disagrees with them is racist, bigoted, hypocritical and insensitive. NONE of them ever answer my question i.e. WHAT AND HOW WOULD THEY SOLVE THE PROBLEM ??

Re: Migration! At the risk of stirring up the hornets nest again.. and being called.

This really is too huge an issue to debate properly in a forum like this. Nevermind the fact that countries such as Germany face a crisis of an ageing population and welcomed these 'economic migrants' with open arms last year. And now fences are erected across Europe to keep them out. You are enjoying the right to move and work freely across Europe. I'm guessing that you were part of the generation who, in general, benefited from large house price rises and early retirement ages with the support of the state. No one is denying that you didn't work hard, but you do seem incredibly insensitive to the plight of others in an incredibly unequal world.

If you are asking me whether I condone anarchy-a state of disorder due to the absence or non-recognition of authority or other controlling systems- then in this case I would argue that this is precisely what most of these migrants have been subject to by the interference and inaction in turns by the west. 250,000 Syrians have died up to last August. I understand their desperation leaving devastated countries. States such as the UK have done comparatively little to share their burden.

It makes my blood boil that fortunate people have no empathy for the situations of others.

Re: Migration! At the risk of stirring up the hornets nest again.. and being called.

I do feel empathy BUT I ask again - What would you do to resolve this ? tea and sympathy doesn't cut it. Would me staying in theUK have stopped this happening??

ALSO This in todays BBC news....

"Has Europe's warm heart gone cold?" Farah, 37, a musician from Baghdad asks. She is sharing a bright pink tent near the border's entrance with her husband and two sons.

"We've been here six days now. We have registration papers to leave and we are genuine refugees fleeing war, unlike some of the other people here who are ruining our chances."

Farah points to other tents and complains that Moroccans, Pakistanis and Iranians are falsely claiming Syrian nationality on fake documents."
