Sarah Storey has won her 11th gold at the Paralympics today and e.g. BBC saying how this equals Tanni Grey-Thompson and Dave Roberts record. I can't understand why they are ignoring the record of Mike Kenny who won 16 golds. I know the issue came up earlier in the games as Kenny was overlooked for the opening ceremony and isn't even going to London as he can't afford to travel from Manchester. Find the situation baffling to say the least. P.S. No way am I having a go at Tanni Grey-Thopson who is the most inspirational speaker I have ever witnessed in front of a group of children.
I've never heard of him to be honest but having googled him I can't find any reason for him being overlooked i.e failing a drugs test. Very strange.
Maybe it is because the earlier Gold medals are are not recognised by the ICS and British Paralympic Association because they were not formed until 1989 ?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Kenny_(swimmer)
Don't they often append something about the "Modern Paralympics" when they take about TGT, Lee Pearson (10 golds) and Sarah Storey. The Paralympics only became an official addition to the Olympics in 1988 at Seoul. Before that it was a completely separate event.
