Who - so far - thinks he's any better than Luke Steele? I've only seen him in goal against Huddersfield and Forest, but I've not seen anything from him yet to suggest he's even on a par with Luke. Yesterday - the first Forest goal. Pollitt from the right side of the penalty area, somehow launched his kick 50 yards into the stand behind the dugout. That's the sort of thing that folk say Steele does. However, it was from that kick and resultant throw in, that Forest attacked and scored the opener. And in my opinion, his 'save' was more of a 'drop'. I haven't seen him command the box yet, either. Despite suggestions from some fans that he is doing. And what was that about second half? Where Cox hit one from 35 yards and he looked liked he'd just woke up and it luckily bobbled off him and out? He looked 'okay' against Huddersfield. But then, he would do, because he had nowt to do. Interested to read other opinions on this.
Thought he played ok yesterday , but he doesn't command his area or come off his line at corners or free kicks , and we are still leaking goals too easily , flickers thought he was excellent tho yesterday so can't see Steele getting back in for next match
Couldn't agree more with your post Whitey. I've posted about this a lot so I won't elaborate too much but he looks very slow to me in every area of his game, which is hardly surprising given his age. For Flicker to say things like "it's nice to have 'that solidity behind the back 4'" I just find to be bizarre. Bring back Luke!
Petr Cech would look crap in our side, fact is we are one of the weakest teams in the league and we are always going to be put under pressure too much.
To be fair I don't think its a case of being better than Steele I think its a case of being better than alnwick or preece as far as that goes. We needed decent comp r goalie and I think we now have some. Still think Steele's the better goalie but at leat he now has competition.
Fact remains, that both of them will make mistakes and look dodgy while ever we've a poor defence ahead of them. Once all fit and available, I hope Flicker selects a back 3/4 and sticks with them. Surely it can't be good chopping and changing at the back? Possibly get away with rotating midfielders or forwards, but defenders? Not really. Not in my experience.
I hope you're joking there. He's always off his line and if it wasn't for him yesterday we'd have lost by a cricket score. He didn't have much to do against Huddersfield but that's because when you come off your line and catch the ball you regain the ball. Much better than staying on your line and having a defender head it clear back to our opponents to have a chance to shoot or keeper coming off his line to punch it back to the opponents for them to have a shooting opportunity.
I wasnt at the Forest game so can't comment too much on that, though my brother was there and I trust his opinion. He stated Pollitt was good in general, kept the score down. I felt he commanded his box well against Huddersfield. Whether he is better than Steele is debatable, but I certainly don't think he's done much wrong and think any keeper is fighting a losing battle when we play a 4 at the back.
At 30 years old Mike Pollitt would have provided stiff competition for Luke Steele. At 41 he's nowhere near.
Couldn't disagree with your brother more. The bar, the post and the lads kicking it off the line kept the score down.
His assessment of the match including the formation, O'Grady etc are identical to yours so its just the keeper you differ on, at least.
So he didn't launch a kick unchallenged, into touch, and then drop the ball at the strikers feet in their resultant attack? And what of the Cox 35 yarder that looked like it woke him up from an afternoon nap? He made one good save, a save I'd back Steele to make all day. Let us remember who it was that kept us at 0-0 in this fixture last season.... I'm neither pro-Steele or anti-Pollitt, by the way. I just want fairness. Fairness in reporting the facts, fairness in judging performances etc. I know - from previous posts of yours, both on here AND the Hudders forum you so often frequent - that you don't like Luke Steele. Which makes me think you're only bigging up Pollitt now, because he's not Luke Steele. Can't be because Pollitt has been better than Steele, because quite clearly, he hasn't been. Unless I've watched different games.
Any chance you could start posting more again? This site needs your input. And get your brother signed up.
I have to say I was slightly driven away by a lot of the nonsense that goes on on here, I guess it's called Hemsworth-gate nowadays? Certainly not just him, I grew more and more impatient with the place and I have to say the endless negativity just grates on me. My brother's an observer - reads but doesn't post, feels again he would get too irritated.
Im fairly new to this board myself, although I did read it as a guest, and I cant believe you would be driven away from this board because of 'nonsense', its an opinions board and we all have different views. As for your brother getting 'irritated' - bloody hell you have to be joking? You mean he gets wound up because people on here sometimes write 'nonsense'? In that case I reckon everyone on here must be very irritated
It still seems a strange signing to me. His goals conceded ratio is worse than Steele. It was the right move to get someone in to compete with Steele. Pollitt isn't it.
U seriously wear Steele tinted glasses! He is twice the keeper Steele is! He DOES command his area he can catch a ball and can also kick a ball! Don't know if u watched forest game but he kept us in it at least 4 brilliant saves! Seriously this Steele loving needs to stop!
