It infuriates me to when people come on here and defend Sheron.A disgrace to his profession who stuck two fingers up to the supporters who paid his (very high) wages. No I don't blame him for that-he had talent- but the effort he put in was abysmal. To speak of him in the same breath as Hayes a travesty.
i can honestly say that i believe he is 1 of the worst players ever to have pulled on the red shirt... a typical sheron shot- ROW ZZ
Sheron story I remember at one match they were raffling a car to raise funds for the club and it was parked on the corner between Ponty and West Stands. A guy in front of me says "How'd they get that in theer?" Quick as a flash his mate says "They gi'd keys to Sheron an towd him ter park it in t' net!"
No I dont. I'm not sticking up for either because I think they are similar players.
Anyone who says Hayes or Sheron are/were rubbish footballers or even in the worst (or best) 30 we have had in the last 10 years are talking out of their arses.

RE: No I dont. I don'think anyone has said that.If we are talking about under-achievers or lazy players Sheron is well up there.
I just think That Hayes's effort is very low at times.
Peoples judgement is clouded by the matter of Sherons fee and wages.
On the whole he was a decent player (as is Hayes) who went missing for long periods (as does Hayes).
A major difference between the two other than wages was the matter of the relative levels of effort by their respective team mates.

RE: I just think The current team seems to have a good work ethic as a whole.
Sheron's team mates were largely as apathetic as he was.

RE: equally as inconsistant B*ll*cks. he runs his balls off. but he doesn't compete in the air as much as he should, he always runs his hardest. i dont know where people get this from, he had this treatment last year and people came around late in the season
once watching the reds training.... ...sheron taking shots into an EMPTY goal... did i say into? oops, meant over. every single shot. striker, you say?
Sheron was a lot older than Hayes when he was playing for us - I'd say his legs had gone more than laziness. He had a good footballing brain (excuse the cliche!) and it always seemed to me he was hours in front of the rest of the players - he played some fantastic balls but none of the rest of the squad had got into right position to receive them... Certainly not the greatest but hardly the worst player in a red shirt - what about Mike Turner and Jonathan Walters? Some of the sh*te that Spackman signed?
Its a money thing though I agree he wasn't the worst player we had, and he did very occasionally do something special, but if we're talking value for money, at a time when we really needed it (trying to get back to the prem, running out of cash), hes got to be one of the worst.
Sheron was awful annoyed me so much because he used to have a run of 5 games of consectutive scoring, earn a starting place for next 2 months without scoring, disappear on bench only to do it all again. Him and Bruce Dyerwere very over paid, but at least brucie ran his heart out and scored 17 goals for 2 consecutive seasons. although £900 a goal bonu might've had something to do with that
