whatever happened to him? i was doubting myself that he even existed until i saw this http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-turner-is-the-prize-for-barnsley-1191448.html
I was at that game and, believe me, it was as impressive a debut as it could have been. The Independent report doesn't do justice to his set-up for our first. It was a clearance out of defence and Turner was on half-way near the right-hand touchline. As Venus closed in, Turner dummied as if to chest-trap the ball, but then let it pass him and he was off past Venus and clear on goal. His pace kept him clear of the last defender and I could see such a young lad making a mess of the one-on-one with Wright in goal. Not a bit of it. Like the best of players, Turner obviously had the goal already designed in his head. He aimed his run, not straight at Wright, but to the right of goal, meaning Wright had to move out of goal to his left to meet the threat, at which point Turner simply passed the ball towards the goal-mouth, where McClare had taken several puffs on his inhaler to come storming to slot into the empty net. Two great thinking moves by Turner. He then capped it all by slotting in near the goal-line in the final minutes. It really was an outstanding debut and he looked a great prospect. Perhaps he lacked the desire - I don't know - but he never quite fulfilled the amazing promise he showed that day on his debut at Portman Road. Great memories, though!
'who came on for the ineffective Deon Burton.' Never a truer word. I thought Turner was going to be a star on his early outings. can't remember what went wrong
