Pick the lies and half truths out of this -

"The scuffles involving both Lions and Barnsley supporters in the stadium nine days ago were seen by TV audiences all over the world."

"Millwall Supporters Club chairman Bob Asprey said: “The stewarding was woefully inadequate - they were absolutely invisible a lot of the time. There was no security at the turnstiles."

“You can see on the footage of the fighting - it is not just Millwall, it is Barnsley fans, too."

“There were no Barnsley fans in the top tier until after half-time. And when they started arriving, they began throwing bottles and other missiles. That led to the inevitable response. It took the authorities ages to get to grip with it."

“The lack of response from Barnsley football club has been defeaning. It has fuelled the one-sided headlines. It was another disappointing part of a disappointing day."

    Wow.

Bob Asprey - a man who speaks like he'll get a slap if he tells the truth.

Just added my two penn'orth in the comments below that ridiculous piece. Given he is the appointed Chairman of a FL supporters club, it might be worthwhile someone alerting Ben to his ludicrous comments - he makes some fairly strong allegations!

I thought the stewarding was fantastic when we played Oxford. Weird how it was only inadequate when their disgusting band of scrotes turned up.

    WTF!
All the lines you highlight are unbelievable but some are demonstably lies

“There were no Barnsley fans in the top tier until after half-time. And when they started arriving, they began throwing bottles and other missiles. That led to the inevitable response. It took the authorities ages to get to grip with it."

There is no wonder that Millwall cant fix the problems with their fans when they dont even acknowledge there is one

I didnt think the stewarding was inadequate - If you were to criticise it would be the time it took the police to respond to the attack on Stewards and Barnsley fans by the Millwall fans.
But even that was only a problem because a section of Millwall charged the Barnsley area

The footage was on You Tube but was removed by FA/Football League.

Absolutely. This is from the CHAIRMAN of their supporters' club, not some clueless two-hat down the pub (although I suspect he fits that bill too...) Out and out lying.

For "Breach of Copyrite" which is an incredible abuse of the intention of not being allowed to film football matches without the approval of the FA/LF

    Full of lies!

No Barnsley fans in the top tier till after half time?????

How can people say such rubbish. They were there from the kick-off and it wouldn't be possible to move up to the top tier anyway.

Surely someone, somewhere kept a copy of this footage.
Reading that piece made my blood boil.
What a blind incompetent in charge.
How on earth could they possibly deny what really happened ?
Aren't the Football League and Wembley responsible for stewarding and security? The probably will not act when they should because they are respnsible for security arrangements and will not do anything which may show them in a bad light.

Attached is one of my photos taken on the day, when the players were lined up before the game. It clearly shows the Reds fans sitting in the area where they had tickets in the top tier (and the opening of that particular block for tickets sales was down to Wembley I believe).

It also shows, from the netting on the right hand side, the extent to which the Barnsley section extended.

I hope the club takes action against his defamatory comments, and if so, they are free to use this photograph if they wish, as is anyone else making representations on BFC's behalf, or as individual Barnsley supporters.

Just sent the following to Toby Porter, the journalist who wrote the article, along with the photograph.

    Dear Mr Porter

I write, as a Barnsley supporter, with regard to your above-headlined article. I wish to respond to the untrue statements made by Bob Asprey, in his capacity as Millwall Supporters Club chairman.

In particular, I wish to point out that the following statement, as quoted in your article, is a blatantly untrue misrepresentation of the situation. "There were no Barnsley fans in the top tier until after half-time. And when they started arriving, they began throwing bottles and other missiles. That led to the inevitable response. It took the authorities ages to get to grip with it."

I have attached, for your information, a photograph taken on the day prior to kickoff (you can clearly see the players lined up on the pitch), which show the Barnsley fans sitting in the upper tier section to which they had been allocated tickets. The small area is clearly designated by the two sections of netting.

The opening up of blocks for sale was controlled by Wembley Stadium alone. Barnsley fans purchasing upper tier tickets had no other option available to them than to buy in these blocks once the upper tier seats were made available.

I am forwarding this to provide balance to the blatantly untrue allegation made by Mr Asprey in your article. This is not intended to be any reflection on the journalistic content of your article, and is provided for your information, should you wish to make any follow-up.

I would also like to point out that I personally had nothing but positive interactions with Millwall supporters on the day. In particular, whilst waiting for a north-bound train on the platform at Wembley Stadium station after the game, I was one of a small number of red-shirted supporters who were applauded by the sizeable Millwall crowd on the opposite platform. Consequently, I am fully aware that many genuine Millwall supporters continue to be adversely affected by the actions of the hooligans, for which the club is unfortunately well-known.

It is unfortunate that those supporters are represented in an official capacity by Mr Asprey.

    Best regards

Absolutely rotten club, from top to bottom. It's absolutely no surprise they behave as they do, when they know the owners, the manager and the supporters club will come out and defend them to the hilt.
