Even more worrying is that Townsend has made the squad despite doing nothing of note for over 12 months

My brother said to me on Tuesday night that he couldn't understand why Nathan Dyer doesn't get a look in despite performing well consistently for Swansea. Maybe it's because he isn't sat on the bench at Man City?

 

To be fair to Townsend, when he was called into the England squad, he was one of the form players in the premier league. He couldn't put a foot wrong at the start of last season.

 

I thought Townsend played for Ireland ?

Great show, but series 2 lost the plot a bit, well, a lot, I'd go as far as to say completely.

In series 1 The Network is run by mysterious and sinister, grey, old men sitting in oak lined board rooms plotting the end of the world (played expertly by Stephen Rea and James Fox).

The Network is a huge organisation, it runs research labs, it can produce enough vaccine to immunize the entire planet, it controls scientists and politicians (we only see how this works in the UK, but as Utopia is a global project, the same must be occurring in every country on earth. They need the whole world to take the vaccine, not just the people of Great Britain.) The Network can influence and manipulate the media, the police and intelligence agencies, they have thousands of foot soldiers, assassins, people so dedicated to the cause they will kill their own families. The Network must be the largest organisation on Earth.

Who is the head of this multinational conglomerate by the end of series 2? Wilson. Some nerd who liked a comic book, got confused about which side he should be on and was manipulated in to killing a couple of people by a psycho called Mr Rabbit who was playing with him. His credentials for taking on this role, his sphere of influence, his integration in to the upper echelons of The Network? None at all.

Utopia is a fantasy, if you're going to invest time in watching such a show you've got to suspend disbelief. But the amount of WTFery delivered to us in the second series just served to undermine what was originally a fantastic concept. IMHO of course.
