Don't know if it's just me but it seems really tacky, a bit americanised and above all lacking dignity What's wrong with a minutes silence?
Blame the idiots who refuse to remain silent One example been the scum fans down at Bell-end Road when George Best died. I think a minutes silence is an excellent mark of respect, however certain sets of people just can't help themselves.
probably becuase when theres a minute silence at Oakwell the ground echoes to somemuppet walking in after its started"what the f***ks going off here" or alternatively somebody behind the west stand"har much? £1.50 for a cup of bovril"
Apart from .......... Apart from the one when a guy came rushing up the gangway steps in the Ponty at 3pm, and shouted "WHAT'S UP ??? SOMEBODY DIED??!"
What's wrong with a minutes silence? Nothing in my book.... But a minutes Clapping seems to me as if they're all Glad He or She as gone, Dont make sense to me.... (chinny) ....
Sorry its a bit late Lizzy, BUT!!!!!!!!!!! Happy new year.... (Y) .... This sites going that fast i've all on Keeping up....
Not sure where it originates. But I know the Italians have been doing it for years. Not sure which I prefer, but as others have already stated, at least applause can drown out the idiots.
I think it originated in Italy. In America they have a "moment's silence", and it really is just a moment - went to a NFL game just after the attack on USS Cole in 2000, and they announced a moments silence....I've known longer silences in a conversation!
And when Charlie Williams died "HALF-TIME DRAW". It was quite funny though, and given the person it was quite appropriate.
