Not sure i understand why? No connection whatsoever, wonder if either Sheffield team would pay the same respects to one of our former players?
Nor me, I don't either. BUT the dick-jockeys that were booing deserve to be anally intruded by Raymond the Barsteward.
Couldn't understand it myself, but it still should have been observed better than it was. Few boos and cries of 'dee dah' from the usual idiots and a guy in the West stand decided to keep shouting "It's spitting", much to the amusement of the morons round him. That and the somewhat typical pitch invasion may have been enough to make embarrassed to be a Barnsley fan, but fortunately the team did us proud. Hope all of the pillocks who desperately wanted to be seen and/or heard on national television yesterday are banned from getting a ticket for the semis.
At what point do you not have a minute silence for someone, I mean a fan of fifty years does he get one ?, i think not.
booing was disgracefull, but when we were told a couple of years ago that it was not policy to hold a minuites silence for former players, was it Stevie Cooper or Sir Jonny Evans, then i believe the club got this one wrong
Agreed entirely. Very misplaced idea, especially given the Steve Cooper scenario. It was always a PR disaster waiting to happen.
Think this minute silence idea is getting out of hand for people with no comnnection with the club or people. That being said if we are having one it should be observed properly.
i prefer a minutes silence to applause myself ,but can't understand why we held that yesterday, did either Sheffield club hold one for "jock" steele?,it really was a recipe for trouble ,before such a high profile game, when everyone was on such a high before the game
was a disgrace to give dooley the minutes silence in the first place The man had no connections with the club,so why?Highly infuriating after the Cooper snub from a couple of years back, and i commented as such last night!
I wondered if it was the fa that had asked for it. Can't see why the club would have even thought about it - no connection was there
Could be. But that being the case, someone from the club should have told them what was likely to happen. Lots of half-cut Barnsley fans being asked for a minutes silence for a Sheffielder? Asking for trouble.
Perhaps we can have an explanation from the club tomorrow Maybe it was a directive from the FA or something. It did seem strange but there was absolutely no excuse for the morons who didn't respect it.
I thought it was a very strange choice National TV cameras there, massive game, everyone is watching.</p> Lets see how a minutes silence for soemone connected to rival teams goes down. I don't know anything of the bloke and I was happy to observe it - don't care who the bloke was connected to if he was a decent bloke - but you know that there's a large section of our crowd who really hate everythign to do with the Sheffield teams. I was pleasantly surprised that it was mainly respected. When they announced it thought "Here we go, there's no chance with this one"</p>
all true, but there is always sooem knob that wants to make a fool of themsleves, no matter what the reason is for holding a minutes silence
be interesting to know then if other local teams have had one Rotherham, Donny, Chesterfield etc, obviously not all at home yesterday
RE: I thought it was a very strange choice although he was mainly connected with United and Wednesday, i think his standing in the football world in general was the reason for the silence, although none of todays matches observed a silence................
