Hopefully not, but come May, the amount of chances that we have failed to convert, could potentially be our downfall. Norwich at home - missed penalty as well as other chances. Southampton away - fair enough, decent point - but again, missed chances - Hume open net. Bristol City at home - again, should've been 3 points. If we'd have took maximum points from all those games, we'd have been in the top half by now. I just hope it doesn't unfold into a common theme throughout the season. COME ON YOU REDS!!!
It was a problem last season as well Number of times we dominated and didnt score - getting killed by the sucker punch Seem to think one or two posters on here think a new striker would do the trick
If things stay the same (forwards) .....................get ready for some of these If things stay the same (forwards) .....................get ready for some of these This thread was first posted on the 1st August 2008 before the season 08/09 had started Match Day Report Barnsley v ************ Barnsley totally dominated the first period of the match. Chances came and went and Barnsley on several occasions were unlucky not to take the lead. On 21 minutes the visitors had a break away and scored against the run of play. Barnsley again pressed forward after the break but the defence of ************* stood firm. On the hour several attempts by Barnsley went begging. One attempt roled across the goal mouth and only needed a touch but unfortunatly no Barnsley player was in 10 metres of the ball. The visitors went close twice in the second half but the majority of play again fell to Barnsley. At the final whistle Simon Davey said his team had given everything but had been unlucky in front of goal Final Score Barnsley 0 - 1 **************** For ************* put in any team in the Championship We need a couple of strikers............urgently !!!
RE: If things stay the same (forwards) .....................get ready for some of these Our players never seem to gamble enough or make the right run. Watching Phillips for Birmingham makes me feel so gutted that we didn't manage to get him! If we had got him I reckon we would have had another 6 points minimum & been 10-14th!
Yes - he is a different quality of player but he did miss 2 out of 3 one on ones yesterday Our problem is we only get one chance a player - the key question is how many chances he would get if he played for us Hume has a decent strike rate for chances he has - he just doesnt get that many
If we had got Phillips and Another.................. Howard would probably have stayed We would have taken some of the cart loads of chances we have created e.g. the miss by Rigters before Palace scored which would have produced a totally different game We would now be top 10..........maybe top 6
I dont think we would have needed the one other Philips and Hume would be a good enough strike force for this division No idea what Rigters is doing at a prem club being loaned to us - He makes Odejayi look world class in comparison
And if Pat Cryne had produced the strikers he promised which all way through the close season I was confident he was going to do, especially after his comments in the Chronicle which specifically mentioned the striker problems we had got and how they were going to solve that problem I honestly had got us down for a play-off place That looks like its not going to happen now (N)
