I'll direct the missus at this one for you but basically theres nothing to worry about.....more to worry about if they don't have it.
IMHO An excuse for parents who want to blame something for their nippers getting a level of autism. Can't blame em but...
Both ours had it without any ill effects. But with all the controversy surrounding the combined jab I can understand your concerns.
my 2 girls had it didn't worry me for a second I think parents who have an autistic child want a reason and an answer... and i would probably be the same in their shoes but the science and basic facts are overwhelming
both my kids have had the jab and had no problems with either, but we were concerned about all the talk of autism
refused to let my lad have it. and not had single jabs either. not worth the risk, having spoken to a parent who swears that the triple jab brought on her sons autism. how longs measles been life threatening in Britain anyhow? in Africa, where they f.-ck each other to relieve the boredom and live on a diet of pips and soil, fair dos. but not in the civilised world buddie.
RE: my 2 girls had it where the family has a history of bowel related illness and/or diabetes, the MMR has been linked. read it somewhere, I seem to recall.
MMR Jab..... from what i understand there was acertain batch of MMR that caused a number of disabilities in children - my ste-lad had a jab from this batch 16 years ago and he is what you'd class as 'special needs'. With this in mind; i was in a quandary when it came around to my youngest (who is now 4) but opted for the jab on the encouragement of my Mrs. To be honest; i think you will be ok! The batch that affected my step-son was a one-off by all accounts and they are still arguing over this 16 years down the road. I'd say go for it.
I've had all three as a kid. Didn't kill me, make me lose my hearing or sight. Also had chickenpox and the old whooping cough. Never had a days illness through my adult life (now 62). Smoked 50 a day for 25 years - still drink more than I should. We were a different generation who were not mollycoddled. Sandwiches had sand in them or a peck of dirt, biscuits were put in a brown bag by a woman whose hands were black from handling the old £sd, etc. Result: we have immune systems, and didn't have biscuits that are broken because you have to fight your way through umpteen layers of packaging. Now where is my invitation to join the 'Grumpy Old Men'?
Laura's had the MMR And , despite having an exceptionally weak immune system , developed no problems. We decided to go for it,but would never think to lecture other parents on what is best for their children .
Never had it when I was a kid Caught Measles and Rubella but missed out on mumps. Is the desease actually that bad if you catch it? Everyone had measles and German measles when I was a nipper with no lasting effect. I'm now carrying antibodies for both so is that classed as a benefit? Anyway, both my lads had the MMR jab with no after-effects so I suppose I've done it both ways - the choice is yours, just go with your heart.
mines had it no qualms at all. there is absolutely no evidence at all that it causes autism. your kid may be hot and bothered for a few days but other than that you shouldnt have any problems. I would do it again any day. I noticed recently that kids from travelling communities where MMR jab take up is low have died from measles.
Its fine As most have said, go for it. The little research that did seemingly suggest a link btw MMR and autism has been fairly comprehensively debunked. The guy behind it (Wakefield) had some very dodgy non-declared interests, his research was cr@p, and numerous subsequent studies have found no link whatsoever. Good ole' Daily Mail stirring up parents fears with little reason.
Old Yep. Medicine is a waste of time. TB and cholera never did anyone any harm. Bring back the plague!
Re: "how longs measles been life threatening in Britain anyhow?" As wopentyke mentioned, a kid died of measles in the UK a couple of weeks ago: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4871728.stm
Both ours have had the mmr injection, no problems, cant blame their hyper activity on it, to my knowledge there is no crediable study which has linked it to any major problems, there will always be side effects related to certain persons and if your family has any medical history then discuss these with the doc/specialist
