Why is mobile phone reception so bad at Oakwell? It took me 10 minutes to send a text to my dad that Juddy Waring had scored last night. You'd think the East Upper would be the optimum position as well. He probably knew by the time he got it.
My guess would be the corrugated iron and steele structure that is oakwell will act as a kinda faradays cage. So unfortunately any radio waves simply hit oakwell and get conducting around it. Unfortunately meaning not very much gets into the stand.
Never had a problem with EE and previously T-Mobile...last time I did was at Huddersfield in 2013 trying to find out the Peterborough score, guessing everyone was doing the same as I got nothing.
After years of getting no signal on matchdays at Oakwell, I ditched O2 and moved to EE. Now get 4G all the time.
Simple 3G can only handle so much data 4G can handle significantly more data Think (for the non techies) Size of a waste pipe. It can handle so much water flowing through it (3g) and when thousands are using it will eventually get blocked. If the pipe was bigger (4G) it can handle lots more **** Its simply a case of thousands trying to use the same 3G network in such a small area. Telephone masts can only take so much people in a "section" (section being the spaces between all the masts) But as 4G can handle lots more, it will also allow lots more people and data to flow between these sections. In other words, this is describing "Bandwidth"
Although on O2 there is no 4G or even useable Edge or 3G connections at Oakwell on matchdays. Even though O2's online coverage map indicates there's loads. I went through all this with O2 and they suggested turning off my 3G and data so that I could make and receive texts and calls. Fantastic support Not!
It cost me winnings last night. Said to MarioKempes at half time "I'm gonna lump on 1 nil", couldn't get a signal, went to smokers corner and still couldn't so gave up. Twohats.
