Do we have 2 every game? As the one announced at the match was O’Keefe but the club has put out DKD on the socials? It says sponsored by urban burger. Is the one at the match sponsored by the match day sponsor?
I think there is one announced in the stadium nominated by the sponsor. Then there is a Twitter poll for fans to vote or at least there always was that will be the one on social media
Just found todays poll https://x.com/barnsleyfc/status/1875603524727533942?s=46&t=EV_x6YgGWkWw_u1ty-4vZA
Wow! The Club really need to take a more considered view of the appropriateness of using that scummy platform.
By my reckoning the club pays at least $1150 a month to twitter for “verified organisation” and affiliate accounts, so can’t see them stopping using it any time soon. At the end of the day they’ll use whatever platform most fans are on which is unfortunately twitter
I disagree. I don't think twitter has the most fans on at all anymore. 3 quarters of 16-24 year olds in the UK use tiktok regularly and over 50% of all adults in UK use it and over half the adult population of the UK have Instagram while only around a 3rd of UK adults have twitter accounts and over 90% of twitter traffic comes from just 10% of accounts. Then there's the consideration of who is actually using it and twitter is the place of the far right then you have to question are they really your target audience? And if the club is paying extortionate amounts for the privilege of doing so then doesn't it make more sense to bin it off not less?
Just seen it on Twitter, it’s not MOTM, it’s “Urban Burgers” POTM !......only men playing so why isn’t it MOTM ha, beyond me reason why lol
Have to agree that X is an inappropriate place for a family-oriented Club to be associated with. It’s become a far-right hate fest on there. It’s much healthier on Blue Sky and other far less toxic sites.
The club set up a Bluesky account months back, but haven't made a single post yet. How fu¢king hard is it to copy & paste what they've put on Space Karen's site onto the new platform?!? I deleted my Twitter/X account when that creepy fu¢k got into bed with Trump. Not missed it one bit.
I'm sure we've done this before, but rather than have different names and hence abbreviations depending on the gender of the participants, isn't it easier to just use a gender-neutral term in all cases? Why have policemen and policewomen, or firemen and firewomen, when you can just have police officers and firefighters? And so on. It's not a difficult change to accommodate.
The club doesn’t pay for twitter. When silly č*** took over the platform, a lot of clubs saw their verified status removed. I believe it was something like 70 of the 92. We were one of them. The EFL assured us they were in dialogue with the platform and that it was a temporary measure as it streamlined its offering. We were without verification and the associated benefits for a couple of weeks. Then one day, it randomly returned. However, there are still some clubs who’ve never seen theirs return. My former colleague who left for Hull a couple of years ago, he told me theirs hasn’t returned. And they haven’t paid for verification either. Prior to the weirdo taking over the platform, clubs had access to a couple of guys at twitter who were tasked with assisting sports clubs with any issues. These people were sacked along with many others. So there’s literally zero ‘support’ on offer.
I've been shaking my fist and yelling at clouds about the Player of the Season since the 1970s. "Why is it 'player' of the season? They're all men for heaven's sake!"
So when Graeme Souness got reprimanded on Sky for saying it’s a “mans game” referring to having a bit of bottle he should have said it’s a players game according to you then mate.
That "each to their own" lasted what, 2 minutes? Again, I don't see the need for gender-specific terms in that context and that one is questionable at best. If as you say what he meant was that one needed to show a bit of bottle, maybe he could have said something like "You need to show a bit of bottle".
I ain’t getting into a big debate mate, I just don’t see why there was a need to change what was in place. Regarding the Souness incident he said nothing wrong so why should he say what you want hear?....do you honestly think he should have been reprimanded and were you upset by his language?
If I heard anything about it at all then I've forgotten it. I was just responding to your post. Responding similarly to this one, I'm not personally upset by it and I think a (public?) reprimand is a bit strong for using a phrase which seems to me to be idiomatic, but I'd like to see media professionals leading the way on such changes, which I see as both positive and inevitable, rather than lagging behind societal norms, which are unquestionably moving in that direction. Which I think is where we came in.
