Hi all I was just thinking about the 4 to 6 million revenue we would supposedly have lost if we had gone down and wondered if and what the club will spend this on?am I the only one who thinks it would be a nice change to spend it on the squad this time?
all things are relative. more than anything, it means we don't have to make the huge staff cuts we would have had to make in L1. it doesn't mean we now have some huge war chest to spend.
Barnsley will never have a huge war chest but would it not be nice for the club to invest a bit in a decent squad that is gonna attract fans back and push us up the league instead of fighting relegation again?
4th in the league since christmas with basically a league one squad ? I'm not suggesting that this could be maintained for a full season but keeping an inspirational manager with a winning mentality is a positive ? The rallying call this season is top six is possible... if you don't aim high then we'll get back to the 4th bottom is an achievement... well it isn't this season and that should be the mantra throughout the club !
I'm not saying we'll go down - far from it. I just don't think we will be adventurous with the budget in case we do go down.
I can see where you are coming from on that but I don't think that we'd be over adventurous anyway. On a slightly different tack, Palace wages were about £11m this season and Steve Parish their chairman said that they were only about mid table in the pecking order. I think there will be some clubs coming down to earth with a massive bump soon.
Spend what on? We have no more money than we normally do in this division. We would have been losing money, we haven't gained anything.
He's thinking about money you would get from going up not down. We are as we were, probably not even that.
There's no doubting that we're a lot better of for avoiding relegation. However, had we been relegated we'd have had to make huge cuts. We would have needed to sell our high earners and we wouldn't have been able to afford to give new deals to those out of contract. I think we would have seen a greater dependence on academy players and we would have recruited players on low wages from the bottom of league 1 or league 2. However, I think it is fair to claim that we haven't been this financially well off for quite a while. We've taken a lot of money from player sales and have also had a decent cup run. We're also being very careful with our wage bill, Steele and Hassell have been offered vastly reduced terms and Foster has been let go altogether. It appears as though we're putting in a place a rather low cap on the wages we're prepared to offer anybody. This gives us a much fairer wage structure but also means the likes of Steele may not re-sign. That means there must be a decent amount of money knocking about yet we're led to believe the transfer budget is similar to last year. So I think it's fair to ask where this extra money is, not that I think we particularly need to spend that much to push on up the table.
How much is vastly? Have you heard something I haven`t? Or is it just your opinion the amounts are large?
