I went in yesterday with my other half who was putting some flowers down on one of her relatives graves.

Came across the grave of BFC legend Tommy Taylor which i had never seen before.

Also i was taken aback by the many deaths during the 20th century of miners at various pits in the town,Monk Bretton,Monkton and Smithies to name but a few.

Finally the small headstones of the returned soldiers from the 1st world war were quite poignant (sp).

    p.s.

Also if Monk Bretton cemetary is similar to many others in the area then the council needs to do something before someone gets injured or worse by the vast amount of damaged or over leaning headstones that look like they could topple over at any moment.

Can anyone fill me in on the major mining disasters in Barnsley during the early 20th century and if anyone has any relatives who were affected or buried in Monk Bretton cemetary.
