DERBY County defender Darren Moore has agreed to join Barnsley on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old centre-back will put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Oakwell.

Barnsley boss Simon Davey told the club's official website: "We have been looking to increase competition at the back and have brought in a player with a proven pedigree.

"Darren has won promotion four times from the Championship during his career and we are delighted to have persuaded him to join up despite interest from a lot of clubs"

Moore, who helped Derby to win promotion to the Premier League in 2006-7, had a year left on his contract at Pride Park but was told he could leave.

Several clubs showed an interest including Bradford City and Leicester City. He was also linked with Doncaster Rovers and Swansea.

He joined Derby from West Bromwich Albion in January 2006 and made 89 appearances, scoring five goals.
