Good, let them have their little closed shop, kick them out of the FA and watch it all go horribly wrong. Meanwhile, BFC will be in the top divsion again, with the Premier League a little watched freak show, before it implodes.
If this was ever a reality I think it could spell the end for football outside of the premier league. Why is something like this only appealing to foreign owners? Surely an English owner would like to his team to be protected equally as much?
Old news mate...they've been wanting that ever since the prem started....cant see that ever happening...can you imagin the hoohar from the last three teams to go down... not to mention the "big clubs"in league one at present...
I can see them introducing a premier league Division 2, 16 in each league with 4 up and 4 down. That way they can get the 'bigger' clubs currently outside the premier league involved. The likes of us, donny etc wouldnt be involved in such a scheme.
The only exciting thing about last year's Premier League was the relegation fight going right to the wire. If the top 5 get into Europe and the other 15 just finish where they finish with no threat of relegation, this will render half the matches utterly inconsequential. Who do they think will pay to watch all these meaningless matches?
Unless we are already in the Prem when something like this kicks in, we never will be. There will be too many perceived barriers that wil be held against us: - ground not big enough - crowds not big enough - foreign tv interest no big enough - town not big enough - debt not big enough! The Aviva Premiership was a prime example of the Cornish Pirates v Worcester in the promotion final, but Pirates were not allowed to go up. Compleetely pointless. I'm sure Prem League would find a way (clauses) for 'massive' teams like Sheffield clubs and Leeds to get in the closed shop.
Agreed Where's the interest once it's clear that teams are bottom half. I reckon this is more media talk putting 2 and 2 together an coming up with 5. Even assuming this is coming from American owners where they don't have relegation, they have small divisions (5 or 6 teams) with the winners going into the playoffs.
