    Reds hit by striker blow

The international centre-forward has flu and was not travelling with the rest of the squad to Hampshire today.
Grant McCann and Martin Devaney, who have both been ill this week, trained yesterday and manager Simon Davey was assessing their fitness today.
Bobby Hassell recovered enough from his thigh strain to join in yesterday's workout with the rest of the first team. He is expected to be available to Davey.
In Rajczi's absence, Istvan Ferenczi is poised to make his full debut tomorrow.
Davey said he was adding new signings Ritchie Jones and Lewin Nyatanga to his squad. That meant no place for centre-back Antony Kay or striker Daniel Nardiello, who were dropped last weekend.
Barnsley are making their first appearance at Southamp-ton's St Mary's Stadium tomorrow. The last time the clubs met in Southampton was in the Premier League in 1997 at The Dell.
Southampton are currently in fifth place in the Champion-ship
"They are a good big club and they've got good players in every department," Davey declared.
Pick of the bunch at the moment is 17-year-old sensation Gareth Bale.
Said Davey: "He can hit a fantastic free-kick. He is a said to be worth £10 million.
"There wouldn't be an auction between Manchester United and Tottenham if he wasn't outstanding."
Defender Bale is not the only one with top-class credentials.
Striker Grzegorz Rasiak has 30 caps and eight goals for Poland while Kenwyne Jones has scored four in his last three games.
Manager George Burley is expected to select the same team that drew 1-1 at West Brom last Saturday.
Midfielder Indigo Idiakez is back after suspension and could go into the squad.
"We could have had six points from our last two games and we only got one," said Burley.
"We played well against both Derby and West Brom. We faded a bit towards the end against Derby but against West Brom we were magnificent for the whole 90 minutes only for one or two decisions to go against us. But Barnsley will make it hard for us, they are fighting for their lives at the moment and it's such a tight league."
n Barnsley from: Colgan, Hassell, P Reid, Nyatanga, Eckersley, Devaney, Jones, Howard, McCann, Richards, Ferenczi, Lucas, Austin, K Reid, Togwell, Atkinson, Mattis.
n Southampton from: Davis, Makin, Lundekvam, Baird, Bale, Surman, Viafara, Wright, Skacel, Jones, Rasiak, Saganowski, Bialkowski, Ostlund, Wright-Phillips, Licka, Idiakez.

Derby County will not let Lewin Nyatanga play against them for Barnsley when the teams clash at Oakwell on March 31.

Does that mean Kay and Nardiello aren't travelling down with the squad?

I wonder what the 'all the players are happier under Davey' brigade make of that?</p>

I think you have the line up there! First eleven names up to Lucas! No striker on bench so obviously happier playing K. Reid out of position rather than any of the other four strikers that he wanted in his squad to provide competition!

Having had a second read at that article. Others must have travelled in the squad - if McCann, Hassel or Devaney fail late tests there arent enough numbers there! That must be just the Stars guess at the starting line up and bench!

    Agreed.

    He'll play:

    Colgan
    Bobby
    P Reid
    Lewin
    Eckersley
    Devaney
    Jones
    McCann
    Howard
    Richards
    Istvan

The only question is if Jones is match fit.
If not - he'll bring in Togwell or, kinell fire, Mattis.

I'd probably swap McCann for Togwell & P Reid for Kay.
And I'd have Mattis driving the bus.

If Mattis plays we could get absolutely battered to death.

Don't want to be negative, but how can Mattis be in the squad and not Kay, Hayes, Nardiello or even Coulson.
We will probably start with Richards and Steve the Hungarian up front, who are both target men, ie play similar roles. We do not have a striker on the bench to try anything different (Nardy or Coulson?) and we leave our best CH, over the season at home. There is a doubt over the fitness of Jones and the cover in Midfield is McCann and Mattis.
    I think we are f*****
Saints fans have been saying they will get 5 or 6 sometime this season. Hope it isn't tomorrow.

    No Kay in the squad?

he should be in the starting 11 never mind the squad.

I would have also taken Nardeillo and put him on the bench.
