Fear over full back Fitness doubt: Oakwell defender Bobby Hassell has missed training this week « Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryBy Simon Meeks Barnsley REGULAR Barnsley right-back Bobby Hassell is the club's major injury concern ahead of tomorrow's game with promotion-chasing Sunderland. He has missed training with a throat infection. Barnsley boss Simon Davey has put Neil Austin on standby for the all-ticket match which kicks off at 1.30pm at the request of the police. Hassell's illness is likely to mean that Davey will shelve plans to tinker with the rest of his back four. Paul Heckingbottom is set to retain the left-back role, once again keeping Manchester United defender Adam Eckersley out of the starting 11. Centre-back and skipper Paul Reid will stay in the team despite sitting out some of this week's preparations with blistered feet. Striker Daniel Nardiello, scored twice for the reserves at Leeds United in midweek. He is available to Davey, returning from a three-match suspension following his red card at Southampton. He is likely to start on the bench as Davey keeps the Hungarian strike partners, Istvan Ferenczi and Peter Rajczi, together. The game is partly a Manchester United reserves reunion, as well as having a strong Hungarian connection. Sunderland have defenders Johnny Evans and Danny Simpson on loan from the Old Trafford academy. Both will be well known to Barnsley's Red Devils, Eckersley and Ritchie Jones. Jones has to recover from a virus if he is to be in Davey's squad. Ferenczi and Rajczi will be aiming to make life miserable for Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop, a fellow Hungarian international who was signed from Spurs for £500,000, and who had a brief spell on loan at Chesterfield. Sunderland will be missing Trinidad and tobago international winger Carlos Edwards, who has a dislocated shoulder. Either Swedish international Tobias Hysen or Anthony Stokes, a £2 million buy from Arsenal, could take over, although both are naturally left-sided. As expected, there is no place in the Barnsley squad for Dwayne Mattis. An ankle injury suffered in the reserve game at Leeds has left him on the sidelines. Barnsley sub goalkeeper David Lucas has signed for another month at Oakwell. Third-choice keeper Kyle Letheren has agreed to stay until the summer of 2008. Midfielder Grant McCann has been called into the Northern Ireland squad for two European qualifying matches later this month. n Barnsley probable: Colgan, Austin, P Reid, Nyatanga, Heckingbottom, Devaney, Togwell, McCann, Howard, Rajczi, Ferenczi, Lucas, Eckersley, K Reid, Nardiello, Kay. n Sunderland probable: Fulop, Ward, Simpson, Evans, Nosworthy, Collins, Hysen, Whitehead, Yorke, Liam Miller, Stokes, Connolly, John, Murphy. n Reds: P49 Last Updated: 09 March 2007
