I posted here over the weekend about getting a laptop and some of you suggested DELL. Is this one a good deal for 379 quid?

    Dell Latitude C840
Pentium 4 1.8ghz, 512mb Ram, 20gb Hard drive, 15" TFT screen, Windows XP Pro (installed), licence and recovery disk, DVD Drive, 10/100 network, 56k Modem, Sound onboard, 1.4 Floppy, 2x USB, Infra-red, Firewire. Carry Case Included. Unit comes with FREE Docking station.

    Thanks for your help.

20GB is not much hard disk these days.
If she is going to store video or music files (eg download films/tunes or store/edit video camera footage) she might fill that.

Also is the DVD drive a DVD-ROM or a DVD writer? And if you need WiFi, you haven't mentioned if it's wireless enabled.

The price is fine, though for a machine of that sort of spec.

    Thanks for the reply.

It has the option to switch the DVD drive to a DVD RW so will probably do that. It is is WiFi ready so that should be ok. How much is memory hardware in the UK - over here it is dirt cheap - the only pain is installing it in a laptop. How cheap/simple is it to boost the memory? I have talked to her about using an external hard drive to store her pics on. Over here you can get them for next to nothing.

    Thanks for your help
