Great header! But he was given acres of space, surprised the centre half didn't close the gap. But easy for me to say. I bet @Pelly feels better about Carlton now. Funny how new signings can seem gash for a couple of games and then hit the ground running. Fingers crossed Norwood will come good.
Makes you wonder why we perhaps just hold onto him until Jan - can understand why we let Woodrow go but not why we let Morris go so easily.
Extremely envious of Luton. They’re currently everything I would want us to be like - tough but with no little skill. Giving a bloody nose to all the big boys.
Morris had no intention of ever playing with the garbage he had to share a field with last season ever again.
Laughing I like Woodrow. But he's been rubbish for the last 18 months. I'm genuinely perplexed why a top Championship side didn't go in for Morris. He is quality.
Can I ask, how do you know we let him go so easily? The board have turned down offers for players, so says Duff. Some folk are clamouring for us to sell Styles, and fewer even Helik, but if the right bids dont come in, do we hold the board accountable for that? The only reason we keep saying we sell cheap and to first bidder, is people on Twitter. Nothing official
Can't agree with this more, mate. Was very surprised, especially as I thought Middlesbrough might come in for him after Wilder rated him
The fact he went to Luton. (Which I don’t mean to sound disrespectful) but he could be a leading striker at any championship club. Let’s be honest we don’t tend to ever really command fees that players should be worth.
Most complete striker I’ve seen at oakwell for many years. Has everything. If he can stay fit he’s a top champ striker for me
Absolutely this. Instead we dropped our knickers for the team with probably the joint lowest budget in the Championship. We couldn't possibly have waited for literally any other club in the division to make what would have been a better offer, which would have come because he shone in one of the worst Championship sides ever.
Totally understand your point, but I think other Championship clubs didn't appreciate him, where as Luton did. I don't think we made an error here, Luton were the only club that made a decent offer. Because they've got good scouts, they use the data well, they can compete despite having a budget that is at a fraction of most clubs, because they recognise a good player. Most Championship clubs don't, they throw money away. They employ people who really aren't very good at their jobs. We do that in spades.
I hope you're right otherwise it represents a massive bollock dropped. Although nothing surprises me anymore.
And to clarify... Morris would have had a relegation release clause. And so would we. If we were relegated then his monthly wage would have dropped considerably. And if we were relegated then a release clause would have kicked in allowing him to leave to a club who offered that value. Luton offered that and so we couldn't say no. What surprises me here is that a bigger club didn't also offer that amount. Our pants weren't pulled down mate, it just was what it was. And we got quite a lot of money (not as much as he was worth but a good amount). And we've brought in a pretty good player from Man City, if the manager will play him.
I'll be honest, I hadn't considered that there may have been a relegation clause - I suppose all teams, no matter how they're doing at the time they sign them, will have these for their players. If that's what happened with Morris then I'm not surprised the club didn't announce that such a clause had been triggered. We just so rarely seem to receive what a player is worth, whether by luck or poor decision making (or both).
