A number of people keep saying 'Mossto will come good this season'. Yet, I never see an explanation as to why they think so. Can any pro-Mossto-ites please explain? (but please don't give me the climatisation BS as he's had the past part of a year in this country , so sorry, that won't wash).
Drogba had a full season of playing like a talentless lovely person before coming good, so I'd say the acclimatising ******** actually stands in some cases at least. His movement always looked good, but his reading of the game was off and he lacked the service. Hopefully, both may be in place this year. Not holding my breath, mind.
I wouldn't like to say whether he'll come good or not, all I know is that when he got an "extended" run in the team (3 starts in a row?), the whole team played poorly, and Mossto seemed to suffer because of that, unlike KO who can't put a foot wrong despite only scoring less than 5 goals last season. I saw flashes from Mossto last season that MIGHT suggest he could be pretty useful in a team that consists of Howard and Anderson in the centre of the midfield, with an in form Devaney, and a troublesome JCR on the flanks. Whenever Mossto played he ended up drifting out wide to collect the ball because our wingers were non existant. Who knows if he'd be up to the job or not, but I think it would be worth finding out.
RE: Needs a game with a good striker alongside him and.. Bruce Dyer scored knocking on for 20 goals when we got relagated. He had no one up front with him and little creativity in midfield. The goals he scored were usually through his own persistence of which I have seen little or nothing from the very lightweight Mossto. Howard in centre mid and JCR/Devaney getting the crosses in - I can't see where the lack of midfield creativity argument comes in. Macken hasn't had a decent forwrad at the side of him yet still got 8 goals in what, around 30 games.
Are you capable of reading? I never said it was the rest of the teams fault, I just suggested it would be good to see him play in a team that consists of the likes of Macken, Leon, Howard and Anderson. I think it's very unfair to judge a players ability when the team as a whole has failed to deliver. What I am pretty certain of is that he'd have scored more than KO in that same amount of appearances. But that's just my opinion.
Would exactly say I'm a Mostto fan, but I'm not anti Mostto either...... and I guess many other who have spoken in support of him are in the same boat........ He arrived at Oakwell last season with big expectations, a proven goalscorer with international experience. Just the kind of player we needed. But I feel it was a big ask for him to settle into english life and football in his short spell i.e. 4months before being loaned back to his native land Peru. It was clear in his first few games that he would take time to settle, and I felt he improved game by game. I also feel playing alongside Odejayi didn't help, and SD rarely gave him opportunities with other strike partners. Not having a go at KO as he was also finding his feet playing at a new club and at a higher level. The fact was we needed more quality up front and more strength in depth in the squad. With the addition of Hume and Macken we have that this season. If Mostto can put in MOTM winning performances each week like he did against Burnley at home last season I don't see why he can't get the goals. Granted it was his only decent performance last year but it showed up was he can do. So not a fan, but not a knocker either! simply saying give the lad a chance and be realistic........
Wouldn't like to say either way. Just not sure that assumption can be made on the back of less than 10 appearances for the club. Wouldn't suprise me though if Davey starts him today, we get thumped 3-0, and he's packed off back to Peru even though, as a team, we didn't get a kick for 90 minutes!
RE: Extract from a rival board - yesterday's ratings 'Miguel Mostto (for Devaney 71) There's just something frustrating about Mostto. He's never with the pace of the game and just laughs when things go wrong'. 5 ....says it all for me.
DiscoTyke - what makes you so sure he wont come good? I just dont know by the way and dont really sit in either camp The fact is Mostto is a proven international goalscorer For some reason he hasnt demonstrated that when playing for us - but be honest he hasnt really had that much chance. Many international players struggled in their first season in British football some (not all) were different players in their second season though He may well come good this year or he may not I really have no idea - I wouldnt mind him being given a chance to find out though. I must admit though I dont quite know how loaning him back to his home country helped - I would rather we had loaned him to a lower league side to get some experience of the english game
All strikers should be judged On the number of goals they score, along with chances they help to create for teammates. In all fairness, you've never been Mostto's biggest fan since he arrived at the club (which is your right) and didn't accept climatisation last year either. Having said that, I have never known any fan wish a Barnsley player to fail and I don't believe you are any different. The only way that Mostto can answer his critics is to get himself picked for the first team and then start putting the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis.
As soon as mossto came on yesterday he looked intelligant...if not too intelligant for our squad. He moved the ball about very well and strung together some good passes and got into decent space.
