For me it has to be Italia '90 for England's run to the semis. although i used to love running home from school to watch the last one in Germany. Best music?...... The one for the Argies' World Cup.
Same as you I guess. Italia '90 for getting to the semis. Germany '74 for going round to family friends house to watch games on their colour telly. Last one for getting up at about 6 in the morning with a hangover to watch Costa Rica v China and then ar lass got up and made me a bacon and egg sarnie before the 2nd game!
Your lass..... Shiz a good un intshi? Apparently the mother-in-law got well oiled after the 1966 final.... Strange; as it's summat she's kept up ever since S)
Mexico 1970 Some wonderful matches ( England 0 Brazil 1 ; Italy 4 West Germany 3 ; Brazi 3 Uruguay 1 ; Brazil 4 Italy 1 ; England 2 West Germany 3 ) , wonderful players ( Pele , Gerson , Jairzinho , Carlos Alberto , Gerd Muller , Bonnisgna(sp) , Riva , Facchetti , Moore , Banks , Cubillas ) and the best team I've ever seen ( Brazil ) .
Argentina 1978 .......Mario Kempes Mario Kempes 1978 FIFA World Cup Argentina: winner, leading goalscorer and Player of the Tournament
yep italia 90 for me too such vivid memories. a welcome introduction to the pain of england losing on penalties also!
Ah , Mario Kempes Played the game like I always wanted to , but never could . Looked the part too ! I think he'd have fitted in a treat with our 1978/79 promotion winning team !!ff
Happy days eh?..... Costa Rica stuffing Scotland.... Cameroon upsetting those well mannered Argies. Maradona's drugs. Gazza rooering! The scandal of Rimini. Schillachi. And it started very dubiously for us in a rain-lashed stadium against the Irish.
If you have never seen films on Argentina 1978 when Argentina were playing.......its worth watching The one thing that sticks in the memory is when Argentina took to the field The noise and the streamers and ticker tape cascading from all sides of the ground Fantastic sight
Mario Kempes.... Methinks he would have formed a formidable partnership with Bell. What about Alberto Tarantini? Absolute psycho - he went nuts when he scored against Peru in the 6-0 victory which earned them a place in the final. After the tournament he signed for Birmingham; never settled, and jumped into the crowd to have it with a fan who abused him as he left the pitch after the Birmingham v Wolves match.
Ticker-tape reception... It was awesome! I've got a dvd highlighting all the games/ interviews - goes on for about 5 hours - and it's well worth a watch. I can recall quite a few English club's supporters trying to imitate the ticker tape reception the following season... Only Portsmouth's lot seemed to do it proper for some reason.
And what a haircut For a while , anything Argentinian was the bee's knees , the darlings of the media and so called football experts .
Italia 90? Me too!
First one I ever saw, and the competition that really got me into football. So definately the most memorable for me. Never looked back since.

Marco Tardelli..... Another fruitcake! He went mental when he scored in the '82 final. I can remember him breaking Kevin Keegan's cheekbone when England ran them ragged in a qualifier for the 1978 World Cup. We won 2-0 but failed to qaulify on account of hardly scoring any goals as compared to Italy who had Bettega, Causio, Zoff in their team.
Italia 90. Ditto Gary Lineker, Shitters, Waddle, Paul Parker, the Mighty Robson (with arm in obligatory sling), New Order, Barnesy rapping along. Great days and some fantastic football.
That game against Peru Just a tad dodgy! And their game with Brazil - remember stopping up to watch it and it was tedious!
RE: Marco Tardelli..... Hard as nails , sandwich short of a picnic , but oh boy , could he play . Bettega , pre maturely grey but a tremendous finisher . Causio , looked like a porn star but bags of ability and gave the team a nice balance going forward . Dino Zoff , stylish goalkeeper at a time when most foreign goalkeepers were looked upon as jokes . Ah the memories .
