I'll start with the Ipswich 3-3 draw after being 3-0 with 5 minutes left, the Willard game (we all know the one) and finally, a meaningless end of season fixture against Southend in which emergency stiker Gareth Williams somehow managed to score a hat-trick.
We went down to 10 men so the players decided to go for it and play more attacking football this worked and we won, just hope Davey took enough notice to try playing that way when we have 11 men on the field.
That Ipswich game was terrible... David Watson made the mother of all cockups. Other surreal games - Huddersfield, when we beat them 7-1 Sunderland away - going 2-0 up with 10 men, pegged back to 2-2 then being absolutely hammered before going up the other end, getting a penalty, and winning 3-2! Quality.
Wembley semi final, bad day all round the only thing....... that sticks in my mind was Oddjobs miss, strange atmosphere and a anti climax to a hell of a build up.
seem to remember a match in the early 80's, I was a teenager helping a friend work on the turnstyles and when we came into the game ten minutes in we were already 3 down, but went on to win 4-3. I think the opposition were Brighton or Reading but I may be wrong
RE: That Ipswich game was terrible... First team to ever win at the Stadium of Light weren't we?Didn't Ashley Ward get sent off too?
Leeds at home in the cup. When Andy Saville grabbed the ball, threw in to Deehan who thumped it in from 20 yards. George Courtney seemed to be the only person in the ground not to notice it.
Hull 4 - Barnsley 5 Goals going in right, left and centre ! Was sat in the seats at the Hull end, didn't know what to do when we scored - just enjoyed the bizarreness of it all.
That Sunderland game was great I was just coming back to my seat when dyer scored and I dropped my pie!! Great game, great result. That game and the Huddersfield game were some of the best football I've ever seen us play. That year was the most up and down year I can remember
Hull 3 - Barnsley 4 - New Years day If I recall correctly Chandler scored a hat trick and the sub (Duggan I think) managed to punch the 4th in with a wonderfull upper cut, straight in fornt of the Barnsley fans almost on Full Time. I think all Chandlers goals were equalisers too. The most surreal thing about that was that a Tarn fan stood next to me and my mate before kick off and predicted that we would win 4-3 before a ball was kicked
Yep I agree - we had 30+ shots that night They had six and scored six - the Ipswich 3-3 was pretty strange as well
chelsea, just could not believe we won. it only actually sunk in when i saw dilerious Barnsley fans in the town centre going beserk !
Barnsley V Bradford 1997 even when 2 up with 10minutes to go I still thought theyd **** it up....!!!! The atmosphere before during and after the game was awesome...
when we put 7 past Huddersfield, thowt I was dreaming... and that screamer from Darren Barnard, for me that one felt like summat out of "MATRIX" the world seemed to stand still till it hit the net ..then a milli-second of disbelief and then wild cheers,.It was awesome that game.
West Ham United away in the cup back in the 80s We scored and shat ourselves. After the match 20 buses totally wrecked and thousands of Hammers on the war path. The cold journey home in a bus with no windows. The atmosphere was to be honest great. It seemed as though there was only 2000 reds fans in the corner but when we scored there were large pockets of Barnsley fans all around the ground.
