I have a motherboard that has an n-vidia chipset. Somebody I know has upgraded and has given me a via chipset motherboard with a better processor that won't work on my mboard.</p> In terms of technology all my other components are compatible, but when I set it up last night the HD failed to recognise the 'new' motherboard. I wiped the cmos and tried again but no joy. I've gone back to my older system.</p> So my question is can I do anything to make the 'new' mboard be recognised by my old hard drive? I'm loathed to reformat and do a clean start up, as I'm pretty sure my wife did a clear out of the study and threw away a load of PC related cds that she thought we didn't need, one of them is my original XP pro disc.</p> Could I install the 'new' mother board drivers on the HD and then try putting it together?</p> Suggestions welcome.</p>
You should always do a fresh install when putting a new motherboard in as thet have different chipsets drivers etc etc you try to put a HD on with the details of the other MB on it will more than likely blue screen anyway.
Fair enough If I have my original XP key code, but not my original XP disk, will any XP disk work with my key code?
RE: How rude - I forgot to say thank you nt Usually Yes..... i've had problems before but not oft. Don't suppose you need 2 gig of high speed memoty LOL
