Both he and Wiseman did their defending very well, but both were very lacking in distribution at times. Quite a few of their attacks came from one of them 2 giving the ball away with silly or miss hit passes. Once everyone is fit I can see McNulty and Cranie as the first choice partnership. I thought Foster and Wiseman did ok today though.
To be fair they were put under pressure from poor balls from Stones , Dawson and Goldbourne on some of the occasions. Said earlier all made either poor passes and gave ball away but it was a good performance and only 1 goal conceded in 3 games at home will do for me along with the 7 pts.
There is simply too many moments of poor quality from the both of them. Both of them can defend, although Wiseman is awful at FB, but as footballers I don't think they are good enough to play the way they are being asked. They have as much of the ball as anybody in the team. Would be interesting to see the stats for each players minutes on the ball.
Bit Harsh - wasnt my choice for man of the match either but he had a fairly decent game - Actually I thought all the starting 11 had decent games so you could argue a case for almost any of those getting MotM - personally I would have given it to Mellis - but dont think Foster is Laughable
Agree that they get too much of the ball and Foster/ McNulty/Wiseman are okay unless pressured but that mainly comes from Dawson, this season, who looks to play the ball in reverse most of the time relying on centre backs to get them out of a hole and release the ball up to the forwards.
Foster had another very good game today in my opinion. Couple of dodgy passes as always but defended really well against a side who looked good going forward. He's started the season very well. Good interview on Barnsley Player tonight too.
Just shows how good we 'could' be, once we get our squad back. Perkins, Steele, Done (came on) all on the bench. So I'm guessing they might be involved this next week. McNulty and Hassell to return soon. O'Brien and Silva too, extra options on the wing. Mido.... WE'RE GUNNA WIN'T LEAGUE!!!!!
WERE NOT WE ARE DOOMED!!!!! One of us will be reight because there is no middle ground on here tha knows YT.
Foster did alright but my top five in no particular order would have been Golbourne, Alnwick, Davies, Stones and Mellis.
John stones was my man of the match, outstanding talent who kept ince in check, whoever picked foster was watching the wrong game
I'd have to agree with ponty72 regarding distribution. I wouldn't have given foster the motm based on his distribution alone. Yes, I cannot argue he is a good defender but his distribution is woeful, and given the way we set out to play it is asking for trouble. Wiseman also played a couple of daft sideways balls yesterday that could have ended badly. To be fair to the lad he played ok at centre half, considering I feared the worst when he was played there initially.
I thought he played well. Not man of the match but still a good, solid performance. Like you always get. Golbourne for me though, all day.
Wasn`t it Fosters 200th appearance for the club yesterday maybe that had summat to do with it. Am sure the stattos will know.
Foster had a good game. He often gets unfair criticism on here. Plus he was marking a quality player in Kevin Phillips who he kept very quiet. I also thought we on the whole looked very comfortable in possession. Wiseman had a couple of bad moments but the goal came from very patient play from the back.
Considering the replies to this post and how people are coming out now saying how well he played and that criticising the decision to give him MOTM is 'harsh' and unfair may I ask why the response at the time was to hear thousands of people gasp in shock and laugh at the decision? I didn't hear anyone clapping the decision, what I heard was a huge sound of disbelief coming from three sides of the ground.
I like foster and think he's been a great servant to the club. He's a bit like Bobby Hassell in that he's a model professional who never gets in trouble, never loses his cool and will always give 100%. I'm not sure if he's good enough anymore for the starting 11 but i'd have him on the subs bench every week of the year. The only sticking point is his wages which I guess will be quite high for a squad player. My post about the MOTM was simply that i didn't think he was very good yesterday. His passing was woeful.
