It does make me smile how these things get branded 'stealthy' and 'sneaky' and 'cash cows' and the like. People know the legal speed limits. If they don't break the law, they won't have a problem. If they speed and get caught - their problem. It's that simple to me.

Anybody who thinks that doesn't drive very much, take it from me there are quite a few occasions on motorways when for safety's sake you have to briefly speed up to avoid trouble from some arsehole who has clearly never read the highway code, that's why I don't have a problem with average speed limits.
And as for ordinary roads there appears to be a dearth of funds for advisory or illuminated speed limit signs but no shortage of funds for fecking cameras. If you drive in a lot of unfamiliar areas (like I do) it s terrible the lack of signs there must be loads of people get done simply because they didn't spot the one small (often overgrown) sign that tells you that the limit has changed.

if the speed limits are not clear or misleading, i reckon that's a different issue. i'm talking about people knowingly breaking the speed limit, then complaining when they get done. i drive about 250 miles a week, which i reckon is more than many. i don't think accelerating by 5 miles an hour for 50 yards on a motorway, to pass a car, is going to get you in trouble.

I'd love to say I've never gone above 70 on a motorway...but I'd be lying, I tend to sit around 75 to 80 depending on traffic and if they raised it to 80 I'd still stick to the same speed.

Yeah that or your company should be obliged to give you a good driver bonus from what they've saved on insurance thanks to your law abiding driving

Way I was taught to drive is if your unsure about the speed limit is to assume its thirty till you are properly informed otherwise.
Makes sense to me but it was a long time ago mind

Be nice if they spent it on purrin some tarmac darn. Coming ont M62 from M66 junction to entering Gods own was pothole city on inside 2 lanes.

Used to be unheard of potholes on a motorway, they were repaired straight away. A1 is a joke as well on certain sections.

I'd say you're ok at those speeds aren't you? Even cameras have a tolerance don't they? On the motorway I generally do 80, I've had police pass me at around that speed. Anyone know for sure?
