we'll have to put our other left sided midfielder in the team. Oh no, hang on, we haven't got one. We've gone with just the one left sided midfield player for the full season. A spindly little Frenchman with no experience at all of the rough and tumble of the Championship. One week in and he's injured already. Who'd have thought it. So it's another player playing out of position tonight. It'll probably be a right back. We seem to stick them everywhere else. Except at right back of course.
I don't think criticising El Haimour (which seems to be somewhere in the tone of this message) is fair on the lad - all footballers get injured. Certainly isn't his fault theres no cover for him. Agreed with the rest of it though.
I wasn't criticising him But going into the season without any cover/competition for him is just barmy. Almost as silly as not having a left back.
I don't think it's anything against him Jay is just pointing out that if you sign a player with no experience in this league at all and no experience with this level of physical football then it is suicide to go into a season without one single player as cover for him. And no Simon, cover does not mean shifting somebody out of position.
An out of position Devaney Or an even further out of position Leon. I was hoping that playing players out of position would have been rectified over the summer. We were very close to relegation last season and I believe a big part of that was us not having a balanced squad. Unfortunately, we're in a very similar position this season.
If you're not criticising him then I agree wholeheartedly. Seemed like "Spindly little Frenchman" & "injured already - what a surprise" was a bit of a criticism, but if not, then you're dead right.
One day We'll have a decent left footed left back and left sided midfielder/winger in the same team, giving us natural balance. But not today.
Lets hope he gives the only other left footed players at the club a chance tonight then. Luke Potter & Jacob Butterfield. Only one way to find out if they're good enough - f.cking play them.
RE: One day To sign 2 players in the close season for one position would be a bit extravangant - can't Hume play on the left as well? It's luxury to expect Barnsley to have two players for every spot. Even Everton have a right footed player as first choice on the left, I can probably think of a few other Premier teams who are in a similar position.
Everton's regular left back last season was Joleon Lescott Who's left footed. At the start of the campaign, their summer signing from Wigan, Leighton Baines, occupied the position. He's also left footed. I stand by my view that a decent left footed left back and left sided midfielder/winger would give us natural balance.
